Looking for reassurance..Any one experienced bleeding after intercourse and had happy outcome?

Thanks in advance for and replies. Also warning that may include tmi.

I have been ttc for just over a year, and have had 2 natural mc's at 7+3 and 6 weeks in that time.

Was thrilled to get my BFP on Sunday but also a little anxious due to previous mc.

Seemed to be having strong preg symptoms and felt quite positive that this one woould be a sticky one.

On Monday evening DP and I had sex (GP seemed to think it would be fine to continue) was about 5 weeks

During intercourse felt fine but after we finished noticed that I was wet went to bathroom and discovered that it was blood. The blood was deep red, and lasted about 30mins and slowly turned to browny discharge which lasted an hour. I had mild cramps also after I had started moving about.

But no blood or anything since. GP said to wait a week to see if bleeding began again and then to re-test. If it were positive to contact him to arrange bloods.

My other mc's lasted 3 days and were clotty and heavy. so am hoping when I test that its still positive and beanie is still there. But I dont want to set myself up for a fall if its all gone wrong again.

usually, it is advised to avoid sex for the first trimester if there is a history of miscarriage. the fact the bleeding stopped is a good thing, you might have a cervical erosion or some other non sinister reason for bleeding

has your GP referred you to the EPAU?

you could still get a positive test in a week even if you were having or just had a miscarriage

blood tests a good idea, but maybe a scan for your reassurance too

I'd go to your EPU tomorrow, they can scan you if you want that, and offer specialist advice about miscarriage which GPs may not be up to date with.

No I havnt had a referal to EPAU, tbh GP is abit naff. He just said come back in a week.

I asked if I could have a scan and he replied that it would't change the outcome so best to wait.

I know now that should have ovided sex but when I asked him he just said carry on as normal... feel so stupid now, like we ave caused this to happen

can you self refer to teh EPAU, maybe call them , esp as you have a history of miscarriage and explain what happened

It could be cervial erosion - very common and benign. Shame your GP won't suggest EPU - you could do what I did and ring NHS Direct in a paddy and get them to suggest EPU drop in (although they prob wont be open over the weekend...)

Are all EPAU able to take self referals?

I had this during pregnancy after two miscarriages and went on to have a healthy baby boy. I also had it in my pregnancy with DD - midwives said 'just go easy' .

Unless you have cervical erosion or an infection there is really no reason to abstain. Miscarriages are not caused by sex - unless you are an active drug user it's highly unlikely you would cause a miscarriage by anything you might do (although I wouldn't advise monster truck rallys or extreme sports!)

Yes, you can self refer to EPU (well, you could for mine) - might be worth looking into the details of your local EPU.

There is only one GP at the practise. But calling NHS direct amd getting them to sugest it may work

Should have said a bit about my history - with ds I bled through out the pg - about once every couple of days on average - inc clots, cramps, the works. With dd had fewer incidents, but still bleed every few weeks.

Obviously much scarier for you having had mcs but bleeding in positive-outcome pg is very common

Hi ladies just to say thanks for your advice. I have found my local EPAU and tey have a clinic tomorrow between 9-3 so I will call them in the morning and explain what has happened to see if I can pop along there
