hedgepig - have you a toy library nearby? they may have one of those big sit or stand in, twirly roundy play stations you can hire for something ridiculous like 20p per week (about 80 quid new!)

ermintrude13 · 10/06/2009 16:20

I thought everyone 40+ listened to The Archers . I've been listening since I was about 10 .

Vicky seemed to start off OK but has become a bit 'feet under the table' and pushy of late. Maybe they don't think it's right for Moik to replace Betty so soon and so they've given him a bunny-boiler/nympho/golddigger type?

hedge do you have a baby bouncer? Sounds like he wants to be on his feet - or there are those walker things where you put babe in the middle and he runs about smashing into walls. They've probably been banned now but were great fun.

hedgepig · 10/06/2009 16:45

we have one of those things that they stand in and go around in circles but it is not what he wants.

mrsboogie · 10/06/2009 16:51

hedgepig totally sympathise D is exactly the same - sometimes you have to wrestle him into a sitting position, sometimes you can't even do that!

The other day nursery told me they spent the whole day taking it in turns to hold him standing up....

wonder if tee is right about now changing her mind about this whole baby business??

ermintrude13 · 10/06/2009 17:17

heh heh, what those baby boys want is the undivided attention, to the point of physical exhuastion, of everyone who looks after them . Good job they're cute, isn't it?

johnworf · 10/06/2009 17:36

hehe@teechanging her mind. Nah, that'll be when they're gowning her up or shaving her Or, when the man with the big spinal needle arrives! Oh, we are mean aren't we?

JJ yes, we were talking about Vicky in the Archers. Sorry for confuddling you.

jeanjeannie · 10/06/2009 18:35

Ahhh, the Archers....that's DP's domain. I do try but I get all confused...I need pictures when it comes to my soaps. Although I do keep hearing the cast on various other things...for example I'm sure Linda Snell is one of the Fimbles

hedgepig and mrsB it's not just the boys...I've been going bonkers here with Verity...she is SO, SO needy! Wants to be held constantly. I'm sure her lack of rolling/crawling etc is she can't be a*sed - why bother when mum will hold me?!

jw you're so cruel! A couple of weeks after my CS we went to a party and met with a mate of ours who is a Doc. He asked what it was like having a spinal and I said it was a breeze. "Really?" came the reply, only that I've been doing them now for the last week on my rota in anaesthetics and they make me feel all weak doing them.....Nice to see confidence in our med prof eh!

More Oreos for me....got a WHOLE box to eat up ..... *skulks off to find them...

iris66 · 10/06/2009 18:41

ermintrude just the baby boys? Unfortunately it's the father too round here

I think it's anticipation of the powerlessness of CS/induction that does it.... what am I talking about, you get the same with any labour don't you really. I think I was mid push when I crinkled, crying "I can't do this anymore"

I'm having serious problems walking at the mo - she's sooooo low that my back arches when I walk - full on duck mode is not attractive.....and all my mat skirts/jeans hurt because they're too small (waaaaaaaaaaah)- I've only got Waynetta trackies left that are about 6" too long and a pair of faded, baggy leggings ... could always wear my long TV dinner frock for the next month I suppose pretend it's a tres chic maxi do-able d'you think?

apologies for the "sorry for myself" moan.. feel better now

Neddie · 10/06/2009 18:59

Oh iris how I sympathize with you. All my trousers have been hacked in front as the gargantuan belly takes over. Fingers are like pork sausages.

I am not too knackered but I think it's because I was working in a very physical job and have now slowed to a virtual standstill.

Cleaned the house today, did 2 washes and a proper cooked dinner for DD2 and myself and made some muffins (with cherries in them too!)which is a feat as I don't do cooking.

I have decided that I have had enough of dear Old Blighty- can't get DP a job or buy a house where we want and the weather is crap. I am off to Spain after these have hatched (Germany is too cold and I don't speak any German as yet). I didn't sleep all night thinking about DP away in Germany all the time and being cold and miserable- may as well be riding around the Spanish countryside in the sunshine when he visits (twins in saddlebags as someone suggested). Cost of living cheaper, housing cheaper, flights cheaper, family over there........I can't wait. Plus I am sick of being a miserable old crab all the time.

mrsboogie · 10/06/2009 19:29

wow that sounds fab neddie will you live together in Spain? and can you carry on your business there?

ermintrude13 · 10/06/2009 19:33

I'm trying to picture Linda Snell as Fimbo but it's not working. I love radio - whenever there's a silence I always tell DH that the actors are having a quick shag or making really foul faces at each other. Well, it amuses me

iris and neddie I really am on the last of my mat clothes - for the past 5 wks only one pair of jeans has fitted, I've dug out a pair of ancient trousers that just about go under the bump, and have a few tops that go low enough to hide my backside. Oh, and a massive Blooming Marvellous cardi that I've never liked but at least it hides the foodstains - I keep spilling stuff on myself. I was just determined not to buy anything.

neddie They like their horses in Spain too, don't they? Are you seriously considering it or is it mostly wishful thinking during this rain? I have a friend who stays in the UK to be near her older kids' dad but when they hit 16 I think she'll be off to sunnier climes.

JJ your doc friend's wibbliness at spinals doesn't surprise me - having been brought up by a pair of them I'm only too well aware of how very human they are. My dad says that all you need to pass your exams is a retentive memory and fast recall. And that surgeons only need good eyesight and a steady hand. Anaethetists can be good at parties though, because they usually have to learn some basic hypnotism and can do all sorts of stuff to unsuspecting guests

jeanjeannie · 10/06/2009 20:03

Oooo neddie Spain eh? Well, it's a plan and a good one when the rain is pouring down outside. Have to say it is pretty depressing trying to buy somewhere here in the UK....I can't help feeling we're all being taken for a ride on the old prices. Mind you, I can't believe they've not really fallen much either. I can't help thinking that when the interest rates start to soar then there'll be quite a few folk who are going to be in trouble.

ermintrude Ah - I see your smelly old cardi with its manky foodstains and I raise you my HUGE maternity dungarees Quite frankly, you're not really slumming it until you've succumbed to looking like an extra in a Dexy's Midnight Runners video

johnworf · 10/06/2009 20:13

Oh I'm so jealous of all your ill fitting maternity clothes. Not!

neddie how wonderful planning a new life in another country. I'd love to do it but I have problems getting DH out of bed.

I love the new pushchair...it's so light. Hence it's name. Does what it says on the tin. However, won't close with the lambskin liner in it so not sure what to do about that.

Cor...I've managed to end up with not 1, but 2 Baby Annabells from Ebay. Must have put a bid on one and forgot about it. K's bedroom is gonna look like Night In The Toy Shop with the grinning dolls. Just missing Vincent Price

onehitwonder · 10/06/2009 20:18

Hi All

My little boy - Ollie Stephen was born at 12.15pm on Monday. Weight was 7lbs.

The c-section was a great experience - I felt very calm, the theatre staff were all lovely. Despite them never having done skin to skin in theatre they helped me to try and we had skin to skin and fed Ollie in recovery.

I am a bit sore, and last night was his 2nd night sucking frenzy (got about 3 hours sleep), but came home today at 4pm and my milk seems to be coming in, so I am hoping with DH's help to get a bit more sleep tonight - fingers crossed.

DD is being a star, very gentle with her little brother and has gone to bed tonight good a gold.

Sorry for the entirely me me me post but haven't had anytime to read the thread, so I hope all is well with everyone.
x

iris66 · 10/06/2009 20:30

onehitwonder CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
I'm so pleased it all went so well for you and that the theatre staff were so supportive.

"welcome to the world" to your lovely baby boy Ollie hope you get some well deserved rest tonight.

hedgepig · 10/06/2009 20:36

Congratulations Onehit I am very impressed you are managing to post already. Is the name Oliver changed to Ollie or did you just choose Ollie? It is a truly splendid name (Oliver is DS2s name).

Talking of Archers characters on the TV is one of the Grundy boys the voice for Autoglass?

Both boys are asleep, shall i have a little glass of wine while I clear up? ......Yes! Hurrah

Neddie Spain sounds fab and we can all come for our holidays .

I found a solution to the holding Ollie up problem . Ben did it for me such a helpful boy He was maybe a bit more rough than I was but O giggled so he must have been OK.

Buggy sounds good JW do you even need to put it down with all that room you have in the back of the van thing you have? (sorry I forgot the name)

Stormfly · 10/06/2009 20:37

Ooo lovely onehitwonder - well done! Congratulations to you, dh and dd on the birth of Ollie Stephen. Sounds like things are going really well too.

jeanjeannie · 10/06/2009 20:52

CONGRATULATIONS!! onehit How fab that you're posting so soon after and the feeding/cs experience has all been good Gorgeous name too. Ah, the 2nd night sucking frenzy - I bet that kick-started that milk flowing in. And bless your DD for being so good around him!

jw I thought when you said Baby Annabells you were refering to Annabell Karmel books ...now I realise it's a doll!! OMG...I've just googled it...WAH!...don't look in its eyes....she's an alien Sorry, I've got a real thing about dolls..they're weird. Mind you, I've got a thing about chairs too. Can't have one in my bedroom...it's just inviting ghosts or nasty spirits to sit down and wake you up .....[freaks self out emoticon]

johnworf · 10/06/2009 21:12

Calm down dear...it's only a doll.

onehit fantastic news that we have another baby on our thread. Whoop! whoop! And another O as well. Hope you're feeling well in yourself and very pleased that all is going well with the feeding

Ahem hedgepig it isn't a van It's a people mover. It moves me around. It's name is Doblo or Dobby. Yes, it could go in there fully erected but want to get the parcel shelf back in there so it will need folding. Anyway, managed to get it down...of a fashion.

Oh yea JJ so you've seen the baby Annabells then? Actually they do several models and we have the First Baby Annabell which is the smallest and is soft bodied. They are creepy looking though. Not sure why you're scared of a chair though. Do ghosts come and haunt you whilst sitting down? Damn lazy ghosts I say. Do you sleep with the light on the landing perchance?

ermintrude13 · 10/06/2009 21:17

Onehit that's great news, congratulations and a big welcome to baby Ollie. Hope you have a lovely time with DD and DH just taking it easy, feeding babe and being well fed yourself .

JJ don't you have 'a thing' about primula cheese spread tubes or a certain kind of food packaging? And now chairs in the bedroom. Hmmmm, interesting. [strokes beard in Dr Freud stylee emoticon]. Actually, I used to wake in the night and actually see the devil in my bedroom chair, but I just thought that was part of a happy Catholic childhood

jeanjeannie · 10/06/2009 21:30

Yes ermintrude I can't abide food in tubes....UGH!

Well, the chair thing is partly due to a former boyfriend (French, so obviously barking) who used to sleepwalk and talk in his sleep. Anyway, one night, he woke me up, whispering...."JJ, there is a lady on the chair..she's staring at us" I froze! Of course the silly sod was asleep...but I didn't know that There was no woman - but in my half asleep state I'd convinced myself there was....

And as for dolls being creepy - well, that's the fault of a childhood watching too many 1970s horror movies!

hedgepig · 10/06/2009 21:36

Ermintrude he was really there you had been V.V.Bad .

JJ so you must throw you clothes on the bedroom floor like us then! I actually found a pair of DHs underpants at the top of the stairs this morning and gave him a hard time for flinging his dirty washing about BUT apparently they were his clean ones ready to put on! I will never understand that man in a million years

JW I wasn't dissing your wheels, I just couldn't remember the name of it.

BonzoDoodah · 10/06/2009 23:49

Congratulations onehit and Tab wonderful news about the two new boys on the thread.

Good Luck Tee .... let us know!

And Duchesse - sod the stupid man and good for you standing up to the bully boy. You look professional - he doesn't ... I wonder who gets the next job ...

I'm back from a long weekend in London. Super time but utterly shattered. Only time so skim through the thread. Sooooo much happened since thursday night! Off to bed ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

OP posts:
johnworf · 11/06/2009 06:36

Morning ladies,

haha@devil in the chair. I can so relate to that!

JJ get a grip woman!

bonzo welcome back from gallivanting. Was London business or pleasure?

hedgepig no offence taken re car/van.

I wonder how tee is getting on and what time they'll be wheeling her down? Aren't the first ones about 8am-ish or do they start earlier these days?

Here's the latest offering from Fretful Mother aka Daily Mail. My answer to it is 'yes, but only for a short amount of time'. Like everything in these matters there is a middle ground rather than the two extremes.

Oh, and off subject, what the hell are the pics of posh all about? You'd never get my nipples showing through a top that far up my chest. You'd be looking somewhere between my armpit and my navel.

Neddie · 11/06/2009 08:11

Congrats onehit glad it all went well.
Re- Spain. Perhaps I should explain that I breed Spanish horses so a bit like coals to Newcastle. I am half Spanish and we are looking for a bed and breakfast/riding establishment. My business partner from Spain is in quarrantine at the moment waiting for some horses to go to China from Spain via Frankfurt(the horses are in quarrantine not her). When she returns we are investigating a place near Santander which would be ideal.
Dp could keep job in Germany and commute until we made enough to live on properly.

Yes of course holidays- you are all invited (as long as you can make your own beds and brush a horse!)
