Hi all, this is going to be a silly question so be warned

When doing pregancy tests, which would you say is the better testing option?

The one the produces the clearest result.

Pee'ing on the stick, or collect urine and dipping it?

I am 14 DPO following a mc, so will be testing this weekend.

I have a beautiful DD, and have sadly had 2 mc TTC #2. So have had over 3 positive tests but just wondered which way produced clearer result etc. as I always worry that I use to less too much urine etc if it BFN.

Thanks x

I find it easier to collect and dip, less co-ordination required, but I suppose both methods work IYSWIM
Good luck

I don't think it makes much difference really. Hope you get the right result.

id say collect and dip..... peing on stick method is too easy to get wrong by peeing on the windows/ peeing too long/ not long enough/ missing altogether.... good luck xx

There's a website here, made by a lady that seems to have far too much time on her hands and an obsession with peeing on a stick. And doing other things with HPT's as well! One of the tests she did (see "fun with HPT's") was to oversaturate dramatically, and she found that you have to leave the test in for something like 10 minutes before there's a problem.

As long as you've given the test enough pee to saturate it such that the reagents move up the strip and the control strip is revealed, it has enough to work - after that its down to concentrations and not volumes (which is why 1st morning urine is usually recommended as its usually the most concentrated).

Fingers crossed for you that this one hangs in there

drlove8 · 29/05/2009 15:35

so what if you pee on a stick and nothing happens?

Tangle · 29/05/2009 17:43

You mean no control line appears? Either its a faulty test (the strip containing the reagents didn't get included), you didn't pee on the right bit,or you didn't pee on it/dip it for long enough. Do another one and pee in the right place and to excess

I personally prefer to dip rather than try and aim midstream. That way you can be sure enough urine gets absorbed. I always think that holding it midstream there is a very good chance I will either miss or not pee enough.

dip - u cant miss with it. the dip tests are cheaper (not that it matters but if have been TTC for ages then costs can mount up) - buy them in 10's for about £1.50 on eBay - I did with my 2 and they work just fine.

I hope you get the result you want hun.
