41 weeks tomorrow - so fed up

So I thought that second babies were supposed to be earlier than first, particularly if the first was early. Everyone (even random strangers in shops) told me that. My first was 4 dys early and so far this one is 6 days late. I am SO OVER IT now. Anyone else in this position? I am fed up with calls from family and friends asking when I'm going in for induction. I want to avoid induction and ideally hospital but this seems to be getting ever more unlikely. Just a rant really, but any tips on distraction techniques would be welcome!

erm have you got sky plus...no real advice apart from fact its the bloody pits - and you are entitled to punch the next person who says "rest up now as you won't have a chance when the baby gets here"....

have you tried nipple tweaking/acupuncture? worked for me...not at the same time though

chocolatebunnies · 28/05/2009 22:01

Im 41 weeks tomorrow too!

This is also my 2nd!

I am v.v.v.v. pissed off with it all now! Sucks!

My distraction, chocolate!

Hav you been offered a sweep yet???

mollykins · 29/05/2009 11:41

hiya, assuming you didn't drop in the night...? I had a sweep yesterday and anoather planned tomorrow. I am so over it, pissed off and just knackered! loads of chocolate, ice cream, anything to take my mind off it! i'm also not answering the phone anymore. had enough 'any news?' calls. good luck!

Nope no dropping here! lol!

I've had two sweeps, one on due date and one yesterday aswell!

Do you know if theres a limit to how many they can do?

Although after yesterdays I dont think I could cope with having it done again, midwife was really rough

Im refusing to reply to anybaby orientated texts now, even my family have started asking me if I've had it yet, as if Im not going to tell them! Im sure some people think Im holding it in on purpose!

Will race you to see who goes first!

Im being induced on Monday unless something happens before hand, which is highly unlikely me thinks!

swottybetty · 29/05/2009 13:15

sending big sympathies your way - and also to chocbunnies. those texts make you go mental, dont they? "oh, mum, sorry -- had baby on weds, kept meaning to ring you but we've been so busy.... "

number two due today for me. was induced at 40 plus ten last time. trying not to obsess. figure i can go to 40 plus 14 this time and fit in loads of acupuncture and sweeps before then.

chin up, babies down ladies.

mollykins · 29/05/2009 13:17

My midwife reckons 3's the limit really. If that doesn't shift it then it's not ready apparantly. It is hideous isn't it. I have started to feel like I'm actually letting my family down by not having had it yet. I mean who do I think I am, they were all looking forward to a game of pass the baby, make it cry then hand it back to it's knackered mummy.

I don't have an induction booked, but an assesment on Monday to discuss it. I so don't want to do that but I guess that's what'll end up happening.

How old's your first? Mine's 19 months and a real handful, part of me wants to go into labour for a break from childcare which is just insanity, but proves how messed up my brain has become!

Swotty What was your induction like?

Molly My first is 2.8 now, shes very excited but thank god shes not aware of the concept of dates etc!

swottybetty · 29/05/2009 13:47

lol mollykins - i know exactly what you mean re wanting to have the baby just to get a break from childcare. i have been planning a homebirth from the start but last week was fantasising about baby turning breech so i could have a ceasarian and a week of lying in hospital after.... dd is 15mo and it is hard isnt it? i dont envy you those extra four months.

chocbunnies - the induction wasnt the most fun thing, but it was ok. they broke waters first off and waited four hours to see what happened. i only went from 2cm to 3cm that time so i had drip and epidural. went from 3cm to 10cm then in 3hours without feeling it all and then the epidural wore off enough for me to push baby out - no intervention for that bit, 2nd degree tear that is all. i guess main thing was that i felt really overwhelmed the continual monitor and how many things i was attached to. felt all space age. also those four hours after my waters were broken werent nice as i was just in this waiting room before they decided whether i was going to be able to go the MWLU or labour ward. it was so hard not to be able to settle and nest into a space. it made it much harder to deal with pain and also i think hampered my progress. but really, it was fine, not loads painful just not what i wanted.

mollykins · 29/05/2009 14:12

I haven't actually tried acupuncture yet, so just booked an appointment for tomorrow. If nothing else I'll be very well informed about natural induction methods by the end of all this.

Let's hope it all kicks off for us soon. It's a lovely day, what more do the little blighters want to welcome them into the world?

Swotty Thats wha Im worried about, the sitting about waiting and being confined to that one space, atleast at home you can keep yourself amused!

Am dreading it to be honest

Midwife has just rung and its all booked in for Monday now.

Should be excited but Im not, feeling like crap!

shellmc · 29/05/2009 15:16

hello ladies,

Im now 8 days over just been for my first sweep today, this is my first so guess its common to go over with first babies.
Sweep wasnt as bad as i thort, i was 2cm dialated and she sed my cervix has shortened, thankgod been getting pains now on and off for past 11 days at least sumthings been happening ha ha.
Hoping something will happen soon, if not im booked in for induction on sunday!!! which i dont really want!!!
Good luck to u all xxxx

swottybetty · 29/05/2009 20:21

hiya shellmc - sending you sponteanous labour vibes. sounds like your body has been starting to do its bit already so hopefully things will get going in next 36 hours

choc - monday is still a long way off is there any chance to getting them to delay an extra day for you? its so tough isnt it? i remember last time really not wanting induction but also desperate to have baby and stop being bleeding pregnant so i guess i was half relieved just to go in and get it done with.

moll - good luck with acupuncture. i have had it a couple of times in last month for other things and has been surprisingly effective. just re-read your first post, are you hoping for a homebirth? i always assumed that at 42 weeks i would just go into hospital, but i am starting to feel a bit militant now.... going to do some research about dangers after 42 and poss of still homebirthing. wish we could afford a private midwife.

mollykins · 30/05/2009 10:45

Hi Swotty

Hoping to use a midwife led birth centre after unspeakably hideous hospital experience first time round(but I hate hospitals anyway so was always going to find it scary). they are not so keen to induce unless there's an obvious threat so i have a ctg scan on monday (measure the fluid and that sort of thing) and then will probably have one every day to make sure baby is ok. At 42 weeks though I may just give up on the idea of natural birth and go for induction. Depends really. At the moment I just can't fathom being pregnant another week. Just walked the 50 yards to the shops to buy chocolate and OK! and felt like 90 year old with arthritic limbs.

Had a show yesterday early evening, but I gather these can come up to a week before labour so holding onto v thin hope. Have another sweep today. Joy.

Am now going to bake a cake while dh has toddler in the park. What a domestic goddess.
