Can you tell the way your baby is lying?

Hi,

I know this is a daft question but when I went for my midwife appointment last week I was 100% that my baby was transverse - feet were kicking hard on my left side in line with my belly button and an arm was causing me a lot of pain in my mid area. To top this off my belly was absolutely tight and painful. I was right and the midwife said she could not do a fundal measurement as it would be inaccurate.

This week I can still feel the left hand side kicks but I also have some butterflies to the lower right.

I have had a feel around and the bottom of my tummy is as soft as soft can be so I assume he is not there. The top of my tummy is hard but not as hard as it has been. Do you think he has his back arched over my diaphragm and is dangling down so to speak?

Also my bump is smaller this week - I know this because last week I barely fitted through the shower door (it is a small gap - I am not that much of a heffer) and this week I have no problems.

I would say he has changed positions. This pg my baby has liked changing between transverse and breech and I felt exactly what you said. My stomach seemed very wide and far back. Now that baby has moved my stomach has gone smaller. mw said mine was ceph now so I can now feel little punches down low and kicks to my ribs.

Thanks Slushy - I need him to have moved and I'm hoping for head down any time soon!
