I do a fair amount of DIY for work - mainly painting and decorating and varnishing wood. I have just found out I am 4 weeks pg and wanted to know if continuing to do this sort of work is dangerous at all for the baby?

I'd avoid oil based products personally.
Water based are fine afaik.

Main thing is to watch your posture, etc, for your own sake. I say this as someone who developed really bad back problems during pg and still have pain 3 years on.

Oh, adn take care when rubbing down. Maybe get yourself a decent dust mask and make sure it usn't old, lead based stuff if you are in a period property.

I'd avoid the fumes if I were you. But then I'm married to someone who researched the effects of pesticides on unborn babies and would barely let me breathe when pg (I exaggerate somewhat)

You need to tell your employer as they have a legal obligation to carry out a risk assessment - which will formally assess and put in place measures to reduce the risks.
