Has anyone any experience of this?

My youngest DD woke with a terrible rash all over her neck, behind her ears, all over her frot and back and it seems to be spreading down her trunk. Took her to the out of hours GP and he seems to think the rash looks like it could well be measles, although she's not displaying any other symptoms and seems happy although a little grumpier then usual. She's not old enough for her MMR yet.

Thing is, i'm 6 weeks pregnant, and i've never had measles nor have i had my MMR. The out of hours dr has given me a form for a blood test to test my immunisation levels, but understandably, i'm a tad worried.

Anyone been through this?

right, first thing. if it is measles it would normally need to be confirmed.

when my DD2 had measles the GP had to take a cheek swab to confirm it as measles is an identifiable (sp?) disease. it had to go to something called the CDC (communicable disease centre). they are who keeps track of the outbreaks of illnesses such as measles, mumps, meningitis etc.

as for you and the pregnancy, please try not to panic as yet. can you ring a midwife for advice?? they should know more.

I had to go thru the same when pregnant with DD3, but with chicken pox (which can be dangerous too, especially at the end of pregnancy). the midwives were fab for me, and very reassuring.

Are we talking german measles or measles. Im not 100% sure but I know that German measles or Rubella IS dangerous if your pregnant but I THINK measles, not so much. Where you will get this info is in the back of 'What to Expect When your Expecting, The First Year' book. I had one but my friend borrowed it never to be seen again. If anyone reading this has it could they look it up and confirm what it say's for LessThanIdeal. Im just sure I read that and was amazed that measles in pregnancy wasn't mentioned as a problem but German meales was. I have no anti bodies to German measles so I was reading up about that at the time.

I think that measles is not a problem, german measles is. I am a midwife so if someone phoned me asking this I would tell them what I thought and then phone the pathology lab at the hospital to confirm it. I am 95% sure that measles would not cause a problem in preg, but as another poster has said it needs to be confirmed anyway.
