Hi all

I am 10 weeks pg and for the past few days i've had a stonking headache. Is this normal? Has anyone any tips? I have been drinking lots of fluids and the weather is getting warmer so I am putting it down to the weather, but just checking.

I did get that at 9-10 weeks too. I used lots and lots of that 4Head stuff which helped so I didnt have to take paracetamol. Although I put mine down to being in Thailand (so heat- same story) at the time as unfortunately my pregnancy resulted in MMC. But don't worry have read headaches common in early pregnancy.

Jbck · 23/05/2009 19:14

Yep both times had them a lot at the beginning. Didn't realise I was pg the first time till nearly 9 weeks so had been taking paracetamol but second time just used cold clothes and a lie down. Drank loads of water too, lots of sleep helped if practical.

Longtalljosie · 23/05/2009 19:17

I've had them on and off and yes, they've been horrid. Some in early pregnancy, and then every so often for a few days as things progressed. I'm now 28 weeks, and the last time was about 26ish weeks...

norktasticninja · 23/05/2009 19:20

I had them in early pregnancy and for a short time postnatally too, most annoying but nothing to worry about iirc.

Picante · 23/05/2009 19:22

Yep I've had them too. I think you need to worry if you start getting blurred vision but other than that they're just annoying!

Thanks eveyone for your answers, feeling relieved now. Still got headache, just drinking water and will pop out and get some 4head shortly. I will keep an eye and if gets worse will call doctor later.

Thanks again and good luck girlies x

I have just been on the web and searched if 4head was safe and this is what I found

www.dooyoo.co.uk/health-therapies-treatments/4head-headache-relief/1039028/

It basically says do ot use when preganant, but you can copy the link and check for yourself!!

Sorry that was meant to say DO NOT use

Don't worry Bump02 am fine.

I spoke to a pharmacist who said although it hasn't been proved safe in pregnancy (as most medicines aren't because of the cost of getting them licensed etc- so they all say DO NOT USE IN PREGNANCY to cover their backs) because this is a topical treatment it should be safe to use. But since paracetamol has been proven safe to use in pregnancy if in doubt and lots of pain use that instead!

I doubt very much the 4Head caused my MMC but then I did joke with DH before it happened that the baby was going to be cool menthol to the touch because I was using it in early pregnancy!

But anyhow since you have anecdotal evidence of an MMC and 4Head use I bet you won't take the risk! (Next time I probably won't now either- in fact I'm gonna climb in a hermetically sealed bubble next time and not come out for 9months!)

By the way there is a point on the paddy bit of your thumb joint of you palm that if you press can relieve headaches. Google it - you need to press firmly but it really does work! Typically though just to panic you there is also an inducing labour point nearby I think (and on the dip of your ankles) so whatever you do don't get the wrong one!

Hope the headaches clear soon.

bubblagirl · 24/05/2009 09:48

goodness yes i had the most awful headaches had to have no lights on no tv on just had to lay in the dark

doctor gave me some tablets that were safe and just ice cubes in a towel on my head was great

Thandeka · 24/05/2009 09:58

Oooh I like cold water bottles too. Pop a load of cold water (and ice if you want) in a hot water bottle and rest your head on it - it is lovely.

Thanks Thandeka

I probably sound like a freak being like this, I am just walking on eggshells all the time (I have had alot of gynae problems in past four years, and still can't quite believe I'm pg) I have an 8 year old son, however, this time I am a nervous wreck.

Thank you so much for your messages, and I agree the 4head couldn't have anything to do with mc, and the bubble idea sounds great, make some room for me

And thanks my DP said he knows how to do that (he does it when I have hiccups) So I will get him to give that a go.

Thanks again x

Completely understandable to be like that.

I was on holiday in Thailand just before the MMC and soooo paranoid about suncream, mozzie lotion, aftersun, insect bites, all the food, all the drink, the sun, the water, heck the air!

So I totally get pregnancy paranoia!

Hope the headaches clear soon.

Bump02 · 24/05/2009 10:08

I'm even more relieved now I'm not going completey mad...or grey
