What do first movements actually feel like??

Hello

I'm 18 weeks pregnant (tomorrow) with my first and not sure if I'm feeling any movement yet! I've had the odd kind of 'bubbling / popping' feeling and today some sharper twinges but to be honest it could be indigestion for all I know!

I was already a size 14 / 16 before I got pregnant so it could be that my fat layer is too thick for me to feel much but I'd be grateful if you girls could share your first movement experiences...

Thank you

I heard all the 'bubbbles/wind/feathers/popping' explanations but the first I felt with both was just like being kicked from the inside by a very small foot

Tee2072 · 21/05/2009 19:35

To quote my SIL 'if you feel like you've passed wind and you don't burp or fart? That's the baby.'

It does feel like bubbles!

Nekabu · 21/05/2009 19:36

It depends a lot on where your placenta is (so my midwife says). Mine's at the front and I get a sort of popping/twinge/twitching rather than feeling an actual kick.

Bumpsadaisie · 21/05/2009 19:59

The bubbling/popping definitely sounds like baby to me!

That's how mine started ....

Bumps x

mine feels like a definate prod, gave me a suprise last night by prodding me when i didnt expect it.

Flutters/Bubbling - Felt them with Ds at 13wks (2nd baby)

Kick - Felt with 1st baby (Dd) at 22wks! I think I was incredibly naive as to what it was and used to forget I was even preg

Toppy · 21/05/2009 22:01

First kicks for me felt exactly like an eye twitch or a facial tick - exactly as subtle as that. Like a teeny tiny tap. A few weeks later these teeny tiny taps can almost lift your body off the bed ! Got them around 18 weeks both times

BikeRunSki · 21/05/2009 22:08

Like there was fizzy lemonade in my veins.

LipstickGirl · 21/05/2009 22:08

Thanks for the replies - I feel reassured that it's not just wind then! I feel really impatient for the bump and the kicks but imagine I'll be tired of it by month 9!

It all just seems to be going so s l o w l y...

This drove me crazy too! Kept reading all the descriptions and having people tell me what it felt like for them, but was never really sure. I'm 26 weeks now and I'd say if you think it could be the baby it almost certainly is. For me it was a bubbling feeling or like a muscle twitch.

sparkleandshine · 23/05/2009 14:24

it can also feel like a pulsing....

YanknCock · 24/05/2009 12:43

Having my first as well. At about 16 weeks, every few days I had this odd sensation. . .reminded me exactly of going fishing with my dad, and holding a styrofoam container of worms. Could just barely feel them moving around inside. (Sorry, I don't do bubbles or butterflies! )

Now at nearly 27 weeks, I get booted so hard it makes me jump. Three more months of this!

Baisey · 24/05/2009 15:11

Mine felt like a foot or hand dragging across the inside of my stomach, it was very much like bubbles. I cant wait to feel it again!
