Hello there. I have severe scoliosis, my curve is over 100 degrees and im awaiting surgery. Im currently 12 weeks pregnant and ive noticed that I am not in any pain! Now normally im in alot of pain and have to take codeine and tramadol to control it, what is it about pregnancy that stops the pain??!! It happened when I was pregnant with my DS to. I just wondered if there was anyone else out there that have found the same thing...

Hello xx

I really don't know anything about this, but I was just wondering if it was because when you get pregnant all your ligaments soften and stretch?? most people get pain when this happens but maybe it has a reverse affect with you??

I am probably totally wrong lol, but it just popped into my head when I read your post.

Out of interest why don't you ask you Midwife or Doc if they know the reason?

Congrats on your pregnancy and hope all goes swimmingly smoothly for you.

xxXxx

Hi Baisey

Apparently its because your body produces natural steroids which combat any inflamation etc.

I have suffered from Arthritis in the past and that's what they told me.

My Dad suffers from Scoliosis (amongst other things!) so I know its no fun! Enjoy the respite and good luck with the pregnancy and surgery.

LKB, x.

My mum has double curvature of the spine (i think it's now refered to as scoliosis) and she has said if she could be 6 months pg for the rest of her life she would be (she's 65!). She never showed very much as both my DB and I seemed to push into her spine and align it correctly. She didn't have a bump with either of us until about 8 months!

Hope your pg continues to help your scoliosis.

My DP's ex has scoliosis (but hers meant she had to have a metal spine and was in a wheelchair) and she was told she couldn't have kids for that reason...

Thats an awful shame Lissy, there was some question when I was younger but that was more to do with other things wrong and "passing it on" So far mine hasnt stopped me from doing anything (apart from prolonged shopping trips much to DH delight) but it is progressive and if I leave it it will compromise my lungs
Thank you Verity, I hope so too!!
