Under-bump trousers - will an old foggie like me, ever get used to them?

I am ancient (ok, only 41), but not used to this fan-dangled new fashion of trousers having "waist"-band below the belly-button. Now all I can get in terms of maternity Jeans is these funny under-bump design ones.

So please someone come and reassure me that these are really VERY comfortable during pregnancy and that I will wonder why I never tried them before...!!!!!!

Or else tell me not to be wasting money on them since they only irritate underneath the bump....

Anyone any thoughts for this old pregnant lady!!!!

I never liked them, loved my mothercare ones with the massive elastic panel that came all the way over the bump! Sadly they seem to be out of vogue now - don't understand since they were soooooo comfy!

littlelamb · 21/05/2009 11:04

No, they are bloody awful. You will spend the entire time hitching them up. Embrace the massive stretchy panel

memoo · 21/05/2009 11:05

Sorry but not going to be much help. I bought a few pairs of under the bump jeans and they were alright early on but now I'm nearly 22 weeks I can't bear them!

They won't stay up and really dig in when I sit down so I have invested in some big old fashioned over the bump ones, the kind that almost come up to your boobs!!

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 21/05/2009 11:07

I had some under the bump jeans when I was having ds my reasoning being I hated anything over my bump when I was massive.
Have to agree with the others though stretchy big panel all the way. They never stayed up propery and dug in when I sat down so I just settled for pushing down the stretchy panel and hoisting up my top when I was in he house my mum took some rather attractive pictures of it too.

memoo · 21/05/2009 11:08

I got these from littlewoods

rainbowdays · 21/05/2009 11:11

But I can't get any of the over the bump ones around here, I have hunted high and low (ok so I did find a pair in a posh preg shop for 70 pounds, but was not feeling like spending that much for a pair of jeans, in these recessionary times)

I absolutely loved a pair I had for my first pregnancies, the right up under the boobies elasticated soft comfy ahhhhh type. But I gave them away to someone else! So if anyone knows of any place I can get the "proper" pregnancy jeans, would love to know!

You need Ebay!

ScorpiowithabigS · 21/05/2009 11:12

Try Next as well.

memoo · 21/05/2009 11:13

Or try littlewoods direct, link above. Next directory do some good ones too

littlelamb · 21/05/2009 11:13

If you are up to hunting around, charity shops might be a good bet. I agree that it is harder to find them in shops now, though god knows why. I had a pair from H and M but I hate H & M tousers as they are made for giants. I didn't have the patience to hem them properly so I just cut about 6 inches off the bottom . I am 5.7 too so hardly a shortie

peachyfox · 21/05/2009 11:13

I got my very over the bump jeans and skirts from H&M and Zara. Lovely big stretchy panel nearly up to the boobs!

If you're not liking them why not get a bella band like these to wear with them. They have nice cheap ones in new look.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 21/05/2009 11:14

Jojo have over the bump, the stetchy all denim over bump are sooooooooooooo comfy, (but look god awful wear a long top )

misscreosote · 21/05/2009 11:14

Nope, and nothing to do with you being an old fogey either, just that they don't stay up (well, maybe if you have a particular shape, but not for me). Over the bump all the way - I always preferred an actual shop where you can try on, rather than a catalogue - try mothercare, jojomamanbebe (very comfy and flattering over bump bootleg version without a separate panel - best jeans ever IMHO), bloomin marvellous (if there's one near you). Good luck - took me till me second pregnancy before I found a pair of comfy AND flattering jeans

YanknCock · 21/05/2009 11:15

I got a pair of Old Navy Maternity Jeans from the U.S. on ebay and they have the massive stretchy panel. . .couldn't be without it, it is fantastic.

ZoeC · 21/05/2009 11:15

cropped ones here

normal over bump jeans

more normal ones here

littlelamb · 21/05/2009 11:16

O yes peachy I forgot bump bands. I got mine from Topshop, and definately helped stop trousers falling down. Also allowed me to wear normal trousers a bit longer, just not doing up the button

rainbowdays · 21/05/2009 11:50

You are all my heros! I am so glad to know that I am not the only one wanting the big over bump ones, but you also came up with great places for me to find them. Shopping time for me I think.

Debenhams have some brilliant over bump jeans - comfiest things I've ever worn.

lastboxoftampons · 21/05/2009 15:32

The current over the bump ones I have came from Next. Think they were £25 or so.

And no, you're totally not alone. The under the bump ones were fine in the beginning, but now dig in, slide down and take my underwear with them!

MrsMerryHenry · 21/05/2009 15:36

I think under-bump trousers are all designed by men. I once saw Gok presenting some to a pregnant woman on How to Look Good...and my first thought was: 'you have NO idea what pregnant women need to wear'.

It's a shame as the under-bump ones all look so much more stylish. But as someone said above, once you get halfway through your pregnancy, all you want is comfort, comfort, comfort.

Big gussets rule!

LadyMetroland · 22/05/2009 20:53

under bump trousers are completely crap. Constant hitching up, falling down, discomfort. I've spent two months wearing Top Shop jeans and have only today decided I can't do it any longer -- marched into Seraphine and bought first pair of over bump trousers I could find. They are SO comfy! Cost me 44 quid, but am planning to wear them every day from now on

seraphine linen trousers

I've also got a pair of over bump trousers from Gap which are super comfy as well - only prob is hardly any stores stock maternity (I got mine from Oxford St flagship store)
