Never had Braxton Hicks and now 37 weeks - is this unusual?

Just looking for some advice really.

I am 37 weeks PG today and have not had ONE Braxton Hicks, throughout the PG.

I know that some people say that you don't always notice them, but I work from home and sit at a computer all day, so I'm sure I'd notice something...

So, if I haven't had any, does it mean that my body isn't getting properly prepared, or should I not worry about it? Our little girl wriggles about all the time so I'm sure that there isn't a problem with her, besides I've had several growth scans due to Gestational Diabetes, so I'm sure they'd have picked up a problem if there was one, but I'm just surprised that everyone talks about having BH and I haven't.

Any advice gratefully received!

xx

Had our labour ante-natal class the other day and the mw's all siad that quite a lot of women really don't feel anything at all in the way of Braxton's! I am on my 2nd pg and boy do I notice them now!!

Good luck with what's left of your pg - I have GD this time too

I don't think that I had any real Braxton Hicks to speak of - certainly nothing that made me even wince in the slightest. I went for foetal monitoring a few times from around 37 weeks as I was concerned about movements, and they were monitoring me for contractions at the same time. At one point, the midwife said to me "surely you can feel those?!" but I felt nothing at all. I convinced myself that I had a high pain threshold - not the case as it turns out in labour but hey ho! The important thing is that your little girl is moving lots. Good luck for the big day

Thank you all for your responses!! I'm not weird then (well, not in the BH respect anyway - ).

Sorry Beccabump, that you have GD. Are you just diet managed? I was but only for about a week, now I'm on insulin. Managed it really well so far though and our little girl is still well within average ranges for size. I'm sooo missing the chocolate though and have a cupboard full in the garage for after I've had her.

Thank you all for your good wishes for the rest of the PG - right back at you ladies - GOOD LUCK all!!

I'm on second pregnancy and 32 weeks, and never felt a BH contraction as far as I can tell. Baby moving loads though, although movements have changed from one side to the other now so wondering if baby has moved position!

Good luck with everything, very jealous your 37 weeks as time seems to be dragging for me, although have scan in 2 weeks for placneta check so just focussing on that at mo

Count yourself lucky - I'm 21 weeks and my BH are starting to get painful. Usually at night, tummy clenches tight and I can really feel the outline of the uterus and the bulge that is the baby.

Don't think it is unusual not to have them though - don't worry!

I never had any BH when I was pregnant, my best friends who were pregnant at the same time as me didn't either so think it is very normal!

I'm 37 weeks as well and I do have BH that I feel but I can tell you that I also have some that I cannot feel at all. The onyl reason I know I'm having them is that DH spends a fair amount of time patting my tummy and every now and then he'll notice that my belly is rock hard.
