Heartburn in early pregnancy?

The only tines i've suffered heartburn is during pregnancy, and then usually from about 20 wks onwards. Could control it at first with just LoveHeart sweets, but then had to be prescribed something by consultant.

I'm six weeks tomorrow and i'm already suffering chronic heartburn - anyone else experience this so early on?

Guess that's me to the shops for LoveHearts tomorrow then!

Yes, in my current pregnancy (13 weeks) I have had it since before I even did a test! It was the first symptom I had although it is starting to lessen slightly now as is the morning sickness thank goodness.

insertwittynicknameHERE · 19/05/2009 19:45

I did with this pg, but it's not too bad now (31+4) and gaviscon usually works for me.

It was because of my heartburn that I did the pg test with this one

Try a tablespoon of white vinegar...not nice to taste but it works well.

MrsHappy · 19/05/2009 21:33

I tend to get it earlier too.
Bananas are really helpful - they contain potassium which is an ingredient in a lot of antacids. So even though I hate them I choke them down!

Gateau · 20/05/2009 08:55

Yip, I have it too, earlier, I think than with my last pg. I glugged gaviscon last time round I'm 18 wks tomorrow. Have had it on and off over the last few weeks.
MrsHappy, I've seen you on other threads and think you're about sa far on as me; when's your due date and how are you getting on? This is your 2nd pg too, isn't it?

MrsHappy · 20/05/2009 09:38

Snap, Gateau I'm 18 weeks tomorrow with my second! Getting on fine this time, but am a bit paranoid - I had 2 ectopics last year so although this one is in the right place it is always in the back of my mind that it might not work out. I thought I felt the baby headbutting me quite hard last week but movements have been really rare since - have you felt any movement yet? I really can't remember what is normal!

Gateau · 20/05/2009 09:54

Yeah, I'm REALLY paranoid this time round too because of my two mcs last year. (also had one 4.5 years ago). And as I said on another thread, I haven't even told lots of people yet cos I'm just so cautious! And I'm not showing much so that just adds to my worries!
I thought I felt some flutters a few weeks back; haven't felt anything since.
How old is your other DC? My DS is 25 months old.

MrsHappy · 20/05/2009 09:58

My DD will be 3 in June. I'm not showing much either - I just look fat. Strangely my organs seem to be getting shoved up towards my ribs because I stick out from quite high up but then if I squash my belly fat down the lower part of my abdomen still looks flat-ish. It is very strange, but maybe is what happens when you do no sit ups after your first baby!

Gateau · 20/05/2009 10:18

Yes, I just look fat too, and, like you, have also started to come out from the top. The lower part of my abdomen is just flab - bleuuurgh! Having said that, I can feel my uterus quite high up under it all so that (kind of) reassures me.
When's your 20 week scan and are you finding out the sex? I'm not, but I think I'm having another boy.

MrsHappy · 20/05/2009 18:18

Scan is in a couple of weeks, although I have an IM so can get her round to listen in if the paranoia gets too much in the meantime!

We will find out the sex - we did last time. But I feel so different from pregnancy number one that I am convinced it is a boy. I would be quite pleased to have another girl though - I have already picked a name and I wouldn't need to buy more clothes! Why do you think you are having a boy? Do you feel the same as last time?

I think I can feel my uterus somewhere above my belly button now too, but only when standing up. If I lie down it all just feels like loads of flab!

(Sorry for hijack Lessthanideal - I do hope that one of the suggestions on here has helped!)
