Has anyone ever had a scan at 12/20 wks where everything looked ok but then after baby was born it turned out there was a problem?

Title says it all really.

Both scans were fine but I'm so anxious for some reason and keep thinking there is something wrong with the baby.

dd2 scans were fine and i had similar feelings of anxiety. she suffered hypoxia at birth, but in my head i know the anxiety and the birth stuff are completely unrelated.

talk to your midwife about your anxiety - have you got anything else going on that you might be projecting your worry onto your pg?

there isn't really anything else going on but My last pregnancy was ectopic and I wonder if this has something to do with it.

Although this pregnancy is obv not ectopic I think i have lost all confidence in my bodys ability to grow a healthy baby.

I know this is irrational but I keep thinking the baby is going to die. If I haven't felt her move for a while I get really panicky

I'm the same memoo. Last pregnancy ended in a mmc, and this one has gone far too smoothly for my liking. All scans have been fine, but I still find myself worrying that something will be wrong with her, or go wrong at the birth. I think most of it is down to me just not being able to believe that I'm actually growing a healthy baby. She's also breech right now, so not feeling much movement which doesn't help the anxiety!

only natural to worry after ep, maybe a more general chat with your mw or gp? not counselling as such but lots of people find subsequent pg difficult and stressful after such an experience...
probably some of the ladies on the post mc conception and pg threads feel very similarly? maybe some will be along

i felt very similarly, i don't think it is unusual at all. could you hire or borrow one fo those thingys (lol technical term) that lets you listen to the hr. would that be reassuring or make you even more jittery?

memoo - all my scans with DS2 were fine and nothing was picked up. When he was born we were told he had Mosaic Downs Syndrome. Try not to worry too much. I was incredibly anxious with DS1 and convinced myself on a regular basis that he wasn't moving enough. He was completely fine. Talk to your midwife or doctor about it as I think the majority of women go through this.

There are so many problems that can't be diagnosed or detected during pregnancy- it is a natural concern for every pregnant woman but you have to try not to let it all overwhelm you. Having a child is a rollercoaster- there is so much that you cannot predict, but whatever life throws at you you'd be amazed by what you can cope with.

My DD was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 7 weeks old- we had no idea anything was wrong after her birth, and no history of CF in our families etc. You can just never know. However the vast majority of babies are born healthy and go on to live healthy lives, so the chances of anything serious being wrong really are very small- and largely completely unpredictable.

I hope I'm not jumping the gun, but are you pg now? I'm nearly 18 weeks and just as worried as the OP that something might go wrong, in the wake of my 2 mcs last year.

Hi Gateau! Portstewart is indeed still lovely, now the evenings are long again plenty of chance to wander the beach after the DCs are asleep! Wow nearly 18 weeks already-time sure flies (though bet it doesn't feel that way for you). Not surprised you are still very anxious after what happened before. It is so hard not to be. You guess right...but waiting for a CVS this Thurs so lots still hanging over us...

My first pg was a mp - followed by chemo and a ban on ttc for a year (this was after 4+ yrs trying). When I was pg with ds I couldn't believe everything was going OK. After each appointment I had one or two days thinking things were OK, then the niggles would start - what if, perhaps... and it wouldn't be until I heard that heartbeat again that I would be OK again for a while. When I was 6 or 7 mo I remember having a tidy up and finding some hpts which were out of date - and I had perhaps 2mins of complete panic that I must have got the whole thing wrong, couldn't be pregnant after all, despite the obvious evidence to the contrary. It wasn't until he was actually in my arms that I stopped worrying - but then I missed being pregnant for quite some time afterwards

All my scans were fine and we now know that DS2 has di-george syndrome (quite similar to downs)although he has had some health problems he is now generally fine (aged 5)

The odds of having a healthy baby are overwhelmingly in your favour. Try and relax (easier said than done I know) and enjoy your pregnancy.

Mistlethrush, you know I'm exactly the same! Next time I will be reassured (hopefully!)will be at 20 week scan in- eeek - four weeks! How can I wait that long?
In fact, I still haven't told lots of people I am pg yet because I am still so cautious!
