too much amniotic fluid - anyone with any experience?

Hi ladies,

Am 37 + 3 and went to see consultant last week as baby was transverse. When checked baby had moved head down, not engaged but was measuring two weeks over so they did a scan and now they say baby is quite large and am showing too much amniotic fluid. Apparently, deepest pool of fluid mesured at 11cm (although this doesn't mean an awful lot to me). They have took my blood to test for diabetes or infection and they've now transferred my care from midwife lead unit to 'big' hospital. have another appointment tmrw where will receive results from blood tests. scan showed baby to be fine, placenta high, cord functioning fine. Anyone else had similar experiences? x

Have they said whether you have polyhydromnius or not?

yes, they wrote it on the scan print out but that's all - didn't actually say it to me. To be honest, consultant i spoke to after was a bit useless. i suppose they want to wait and see results but every question i asked, the answer was "possibly".

Keep an eye on the baby's movements.

I had polyh and had an emergency section. Horrible time, crap care the day before he was born, but he is okay now.

I had polyhydramnious with my dd, diagnosed at 36 weeks. The consultant kept me in until the birth at 39 weeks (elective section) but I guess as they are monitoring you it has not reached the same stage as mine.

They said my dd would be large (over 10lbs was predicted) although she was 9lb 4.

The main reason that they kept me in was that she was an unstable lie and so kept turning from head down position to breech.

Meant to say that the consultant was also worried about my waters breaking as she wasn't in a head down position and I think this can mean the cord may prolapse.

I'm not saying this to worry you, more that if you felt the consultant wasn't answering your questions this might be something to ask about tomorrow.

Mine was dx until after his birth, and I still don't know why he was fading away tbh.

I hope all goes well for you and it is good that you know there might be a problem so you can be looked after properly.

I was also admitted at 37 weeks with this - too much fluid and unstable lie. I was due for a el CS at 39 weeks, but on the morning they scanned me and baby had gone head down so they sent me home.

I was eventually induced at 41 weeks, but dd never engaged and I ended up with an emCS. With the benefit of hindsight I would have have insisted on the el CS. DD was predicted to be huge, but was a reasonable 8lb2.
