Hi All - Has anyone lost weight during their first trimester. I am coming up to 8 weeks pregnant and I can't eat in the evening without feeling terribly nauseated. Assuming that it will all catch up with me after the first 12 weeks but I hope I am not harming the baby? I am trying to eat little and often but even the thought of food makes makes stomach churn! Any advise hugely appreciated.

It is quite normally to lose some as your appetite is just not as normal. Try and make sure you get lots of fluids and eat little and often. If you are losing alot or cant seem to keep any food down ring the midwife. Hope you feeling better soon

I lost weight in first trimester as everything made me nauseous and couldn't eat - esp in the evenings my nausea would get much worse, just as DH was getting hungry for dinner - wasn't even able to cook for him or step into the kitchen without feeling ill. Sometimes all I would eat would be small pack of crisps, or occasionally small portion of pasta with nothing but some butter and grated parmesan. Was totally put off by any fruit and veg. Think as long as you are getting some calories by whatever is not making you ill and taking prenatal vitamins, you should be ok. Baby gets whatever nutrients it needs from your body and diet anyway, and contrary to popular belief you do not need to eat for two and don't need extra calories until 3rd trimester. And yes, the nausea did eventually stop and the weight gain did catch up with me in the 2nd trimester and baby has been growing healthily and well at all my scans. Am now 38 weeks and new problem is that although I get hungry, stomach is so compressed by size of bump that can hardly eat again. So enjoy that 2nd trimester when it comes! Good luck!

lucky i hated the morning sickness, had a constant nausea feeling and vomited daily, i did lost some weight but im now at 27 weeks and its back on again. i really sypathise with you, its terrible. as long as you keep yourself well hydrated and keep some food down until this passes, mine did about 14 weeks. if you cant keep any food or fluid down or loss loads of weight you should definately contact your doctor. some people recommend ginger ale or biscuits to sooth the stomach, nothing seemed to help me though. ive heard tell of travel wrist bands for travel sickness helped some ladies. take care and all the best.
