I have been getting severe cramps for the last few days. They have mainly been at night where the pain has woken me up, I need the toilet, I have a big bowel movement all the while I am sweating from the pain (and moaning quite alot). After about 20 mins the pain starts to subside and the sweating then makes me go cold (I have now felt relieved by this as I know the cramps will stop.)

I had one on wednesday and thursday night then one in the day on friday and one friday night. Was fine all day yesterday, maybe some very mild cramps but last night was awful, I one at 1:30 then another at around 3:30 then another at 6:30 and the last at about 8:00. I feel fine again now if a little achey. Have taken paracetamal and had alot of fluids.

Sorry for the lengthy post, please can someone advise? I have had absolutely no bleeding or spotting, only some EWCM. Also, I am on progestorone suppositories as I concieved through IVF. Oh and I am 5 + 4 weeks.

Thanks you.

Poor you, when you have the really bad cramps, is it usually around the time you have a bowel movement, as it could be constipation giving you these cramps, i know progesterone can cause constipation. Maybe try drinking plenty of orange juice and eating fibre to keep your bowels moving freely.
Hope someone else comes along soon who can maybe give you more useful advice.
Congratulations on your pregnancy, by the way.

I have had bad cramps like that in pregnancy at the early stages. And I know my friend did also, she was lying on the floor in the bathroom in agony. I would ask advice tomorrow but I think it could be the pregnancy 'settling in'. Congratulations.

Hi crapmas sorry to hear you've had those cramps. Mine's an IVF pregnancy too and I remember being 5+ weeks very well - it's pretty tortuous!

I did have bad cramps, just like my period was about to start, for a few weeks during and after implantation - so bad at one point I nearly fainted and DP wanted to take me to A&E.

Are your suppositories cyclogest? - they mess up your insides a bit, so perhaps that's what's causing the sweats and cramps? Are you using the, er, back route? My doc at the IVF clinic says it's absolutely fine to insert them vaginally, (just lie down for 20 minutes afterwards). I did and found my digestion much improved.

Big congrats on your BFP! FWIW, I don't think this sounds like any threat to your lovely emby - no bleeding is always very good news!

Thank you so much for all your replies. I will up my intake of fibre and fluids big time today and see what happens.

Peachy yes I am taking cyclogest in the back door . I will start them vaginally I think. Congratulations on your pregnancy by the way how far gone are you? DP tried to reassure me that my body had been through alot with the IVF and that everything is now settling down whilst trying to adjust to the pregnancy. I did have some mild OHSS so perhaps that isn't helping either.

Anyway thank you all again for replies, will try and chill today

Yes, try vaginally - I found it much better. My clinic make you take the pessaries till 12 weeks, which I did, but boy is it nice when it stops.. The bloating and the constipation are a pain I know, but not an actual problem re the pregnancy.

It's so hard to relax after IVF, but I think you should try and see the cramps as a good sign - your bean is digging its way in and has no intention of going anywhere for 9 months..

I'm nearly 26 weeks by the way, and still a worrier...

Ohwhatacrapmasfear · 17/05/2009 11:48

Yes I've been told to take the pessaries until week 12 too.

Am making myself have lots of positive thoughts now and am going to be very lazy rest today

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy
