How many of you fell pregnant through the withdrawl method?

This is the only form of contraception that we use and we never have sex during my ovulation week.

It worked for us both times before we had both our children.

This month we had sex a few times around my ovulation using the withdrawl method because we do not mind if I fall pregnant but not exactly trying iykwim. We will start ttc properly in a few months.

I am really interested to know how many of your babies were conceived this way?

It is actually not as easy as I use to think to fall pregnant, most of my friends spent 6mths - 2 years trying to conceive.

Plus I read somewhere that male sperm are faster swimmers but die sooner than females so if you conceived using the withdrawl method are you more likely to have a boy?

So please tell if you did fall pregnant this way and if you had a boy or girl.

Thanks!

I did - 4 months after having my second child!

I have to say it wasn't our regular method of contraception.

Copious amounts of champagne because it was our anniversary led to dd2 being born 9 months later!

I was in shock at the time but it was the best mistake we ever made.

I now have a lovely older ds and 2 dds with a 13 month age gap and it's brilliant!

ah sounds lovely!

well i hope i fell pregnant, it would not matter too much if not as we plan to start ttc soon anyway. but i quite like not having to try

Yes, we do it over ovulation time - that's the time we do it most, because I'm in the mood! Have got three children, all conceived very easily, one whilst I was on the pill, and one whilst I was using a diaphragm, so the withdrawal method for us seems to working better than proper forms of contraception.

susiedotcom · 18/05/2009 11:50

We've used the withdrawal method for 7 years, inc ovulation time, & it's been 100% reliable. We thought that perhaps there was some other reason that it was so effective, but when we decided to just go for it I fell pregnant after 1 month (at the age of 40 too!)
All I can say is, it worked for us.

Hawkmoth · 18/05/2009 16:25

Does "Hang on a minute, this is a danger day isn't it?" count?

Am expecting a boy.

Rhythm/Withdrawal/Condoms at ovulation time worked for six months with us. So that's not very well!

Mind you, DP made DSD when he gave up pissed without finishing the job. So I totally blame him for it .

devotion · 18/05/2009 20:11

i'm actually quite excited now to see if I am pregnant.

People using the withdrawal method are quoted as having a 75% effectiveness per cycle.

People trying to get pregnant are quoted as having a 25% chance per cycle.

It is not a coincidence that these are actually the same figure.

its interesting how well it has worked for many of us although we usually avoid ovulation week. I use to use persona and always ovulated between 12-14 days.

My friend got PG this way and had a boy. x

snook1 · 19/05/2009 12:01

I fell PG this way and am due in July. Don't know if it's a boy or girl.

We had been using this method for about 1 year before I fell PG - and we had discussed starting ttc the next month! Just good timing in the end.

Joolsiam · 19/05/2009 12:09

You are giving me hope

Am TTC post MC no 3 and thought I had no chance this cycle because of DP performance issues - he did pull out once or twice without finishing once during a couple of days before ovulation ....... (fingers crossed)

devotion · 19/05/2009 15:37

Joolsiam - fingers crossed for you x

When will you know?

I'm guessing that I should know this weekend - cycle is a bit odd post mc but am fairly sure of when I ov'ed. Not overly confident, as I haven't grown a cleavage yet, and that usually happens !!

Am away for the weekend, but will pop in next week and let you know

devotion · 19/05/2009 20:47

ooh exciting!

i will know next tuesday

I did with my first - a lovely girl

Slickbird · 20/05/2009 21:49

Me. Just had a boy 10 weeks ago. VERY UNEXPECTED THIRD CHILD!! (Especially as our DD1 was only 9 months old) He's lovely tho and a total angel

Funnily enough we used the withdrawal method on and off for years, so really I'm amazed we've only got three.

But now it seems I only have to walk past DH in the hall....Needless to say, he's isn't getting near me until he's had the snip.

devotion · 21/05/2009 22:33

Congratulations!

Ah 10 weeks

i realised recently that we actually had full sex on a fertile day this month. counted the days wrong.

my dh thinks i did it on purpose but it really was an accident. he does not mind though.

needless to say i am even more excited now at the possibility that i could be pregnant either from that day or the other two times we had sex using the withdrawl method.

fingers crossed!

Good luck to you Devotion and let us know how you get on!

islandlassie · 22/05/2009 11:00

We use it when we are in the zone too much to grab the condom box!! haha and so far no baby!

DS was concieved after 1 night of forgetting to pull out. lol

I have to say though, we dont want an other baby just now but if it happened well that would be ok. I dont feel it's totally reliable, DH does.

Slickbird · 23/05/2009 20:21

It's not. Trust me.

Armi · 23/05/2009 22:27

We've been together for 10 years and have been using the withdrawal method (and avoiding naughtiness before and after ovulation) for about 7 years. Of course, now we're TTC I thought it would all just happen - after all, I don't have to wait for any contraceptive chemicals to leave my system or for my cycle to re-establish itself.

Turns out it's not as easy as I thought it would be! I spent my late teens and twenties in a feverish haze of terror that I'd get pregnant by accident....if only I'd known how bloody difficult it is to get knocked up I could have saved myself a few wrinkles and grey hairs. Now I'm in my mid-30s and I have the horrible feeling that my eggs are over-cooked. If it's so easy to become impregnated by the withdrawal method, I should have a whole brood of little weasels by now.

Slickbird · 23/05/2009 23:32

Armi I know, there's no rhyme nor reason to it and I don't understand why some find it so easy and others don't. What I also can't understand is why we are told when we are TTC to eay healthily, cut down on alcohol, don't smoke, don't do drugs (obviously) and it can still be really hard to get pregnant - then on the flip side, I have a community MW friend who works in a really rough area where tonnes of the mum's are on drugs, are abused, smoke, drink alcohol and are popping them out like rabbits. I mean what is that all about?

On that note, another friend had been trying for a couple of years and was in her early thirties and they both got 'checked' - it turns out she had endemetriosis and is getting that all sorted and hopes to get preggars after.

Katrina7 · 23/05/2009 23:44

i did. And he didn't believe me
