Can someone, anyone, give me hope? am devastated..

Hi this is my first time on any forum but i just needed to hear from someone in similar situations.

My my dates, I am 8wks+2 pregnant. Last period 18th march. Did positive test 20th April.

Had very light staining a couple days so requested early scan. they did internal and said they could see the yolk sac and baby but that the baby only measures 6+2. She could not detect a heartbeat.

They are bringing me back in a week to see whether the baby grows or not. They have prepared me for a miscarriage as they say its unlikely that i ovulated late but still got positive test 33 days after last period.

Is there any hope at all? I just cant give up hope on this baby but yet I know I need to prepare myself. Have beautiful 2yr old daughter and I need to be strong for her but I've never felt so devastated before.

I had an early TV scan at about the same time as you. Yolk sack, couldn't see baby, no heartbeat. I thought I was about 7+ weeks, they said 5 weeks at most.

I am now nearly 35 weeks!

Don't give up hope! Could just be very much too early.

Did they do an HCG test as well?

There is hope! I think they tend to prepare you for the worst, just incase.

I have just burst into tears thanks so much!

they didnt offer to do a test.

also just remembered that i did one of those clearblue tests about 5 days after i found out and it said i was 2-3 weeks so that further diminishes any hope i might have.

were you sure of your dates?

I swing between emotions every few minutes but after reading your posts I am determined to be positive for this baby and not be afraid to hope..

It'll be a long 6 days til next scan but will do what I can

I thought I was sure of my dates. Positive in fact. But I obviously wasn't!

I did know the exact day we had Done The Deed, but I obviously ovulated much later than normal.

And don't go by the Clearblue test. They are only 92% accurate, which is a pretty wide margin of error for this sort of thing!!

That's what happened to me too. I also used one of those magic Clearblue tests. I was convinced that I was 8 weeks but scan said 5 or 6 weeks, I forget which. My test corresponded with my dates so we were devastated.

However, I must have ovulated late because I now have a 2 week old son.

There is hope!

asked this question on another thread but basically - if midwife says i am 6+2 does that mean I ovulated on 15th April or conceived on 15th April?

In either scenario is it possible I then got positive test on 20th?

Cannot relax and am wound up to 90

I have had this scenario with my DS - I ovulated 2 weeks late so when I went for the 13 week scan I was only 11 weeks pregnant. Started doing pregnancy tests at day 28 but later worked out that I had actually conceived around day 28!

Had I had an early scan (I didn't, he was my first baby and I was quite innocent about miscarriage etc at that stage) I would, of course, have had exactly the same scenario as you describe.

Of course they have to prepare you for the worst BUT don't assume it is over.

LeeWT - they work out your dates by your LMP. BUT in reality, it would be the date you ovulated PLUS 2 weeks ( I have irregular cycles so that is how they worked mine out - my cycles are v long)

Also Lee, sperm are persistent little buggers and they hang around making a nuisance of themselves for a while before they actually get down to anything productive (a bit like their original hosts). I was told it is entirely plausible that you ovulated late, and then took a few days after that to conceive. I was also told that if the maternity sister had her way those tests that show you the likely time since conception would be banned. I went through the same mathematical trauma as you trying to work out dates but the medics have said stop worrying so I have cast the whole situation to the fates and see what they decide... btw I'm at least 2 weeks behind where I thought I was so I know how you feel!!
