Glastonbury Festival at 10 weeks pregnant... is it madness?

pushmepullme · 13/05/2009 20:42

I have just found out I am pregnant I have tickets for Glastonbury Festival. I don't want to waste my ticket (can't refund it now) and am planning to go. Am I mad?

This is my first pregnancy, I am in my late 30's. I am guessing that if I get morning sickness I will still have it at 10 weeks which could be a problem and also that I may be very tired. I have never been into the whole 'getting off my tits' thing, prefering to sit about and watch the world go by and catch a few bands and will have people with me who will be doing the same kind of thing.

Am I just nuts to consider it?

Just found this thread - fabulous. I'll be 27 weeks by then, and it will be my first time there. Some great advice - off to buy a shewee...

theDreadPirateRoberts · 15/05/2009 23:48

And some Vicks.

Seriously, the loos ming.

wilbur · 15/05/2009 23:57

I went to see Fat Boy Slim when I was 12 weeks preg with ds1, great night, the only thing was that I got really tired quite early on and only just made it to the end of his set, plus my super pregnant sense of smell made the armpit/fag fug a bit much. I would say, as long as you've got somewhere comfy - extra pillow and sleeping bag for the tent - to crash out when you're feeling pregnancy-weary, you should be fine. Hopefully you dp/dh will be willing to have a mellow Glastonbury - looking up at the stars cuddled under a blanket rather than sweating like a pig in the mosh pit. Maybe start hinting that to him now, so you don't end up having a weepy row in the middle of a muddy field. [Remembers weepy row with dh in middle of muddy field...]

trulyscrumptious43 · 16/05/2009 00:09

As long as you hang out in the Green Fields and like wilbur says, have a comfy bed, you'll be fine. There is a First Aid centre that end of the festival and lots of places to chill out.

Have a lovely time - and you'll be able to tell baby that s/he went to Glasto 2009 when s/he gets to be a teenager - v. cool!

MrsMc82 · 16/05/2009 01:32

OMG - i'm going too! Just found out today that am pg, am only just 4 weeks so doesn't feel real but if it is really real i reckon that'll make me about 9/10 weeks when i'm at glastonbury too. Is my first ever festival and am cheating a bit as hiring a caravan and am so excited about going but kind of thinking am i mad too! Glad i found this thread (only just ventured over from the ttc board!) has made me feel loads better about glastonbury!! XX

solidgoldSneezeLikeApig · 16/05/2009 02:08

Go, and have fun. I went to Tewkesbury re-enactors event at about 26 wks, and was a water-carrier on the battlefield - and also fell over late one night and frightened myself a bit as I landed on bump, but a bout of furious kicking reassured me, and that 'bump' is now a lovely 4-year-old.

pushmepullme · 16/05/2009 11:27

hi all. So glad to hear there are other people in the same position.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PREGNANCIES!

we all seem to be at the same stage so if all goes to plan perhaps I'll see you in one of the pregnancy threads later?

MrsMc82 is it your first baby as well as your first festival? You will love Glastonbury - here's hoping for a sunny one!

Isst42 so jealous that your tickets have arrived, no sign of mine yet!

minshu My Shepee arrived today. I'll have a little practice with it later

Thanks to everyone for your advice

Dita, the wellies were given to me by my sister as her little girls are way too old/big for them now. You used to be able to get them in Woolies

There are some on ebay though. I think that the ones I have will be too big for DD but she's unlikely to be walking by then anyway!

Congratulations to everyone with BFP who are going to brave the festival - make the most of it if you don't have kids already as it will be different next time!

Sersi · 16/05/2009 17:04

pushmepullme definitely advise having a practice with the sheepee. I now find mine indespensible - v useful on long days out in the countryside with the family, when there aren't any public conveniences - much easier than squatting behind a tree

Issy42 · 16/05/2009 17:56

Really looking forward to it now. Thanks for the congrats and for starting this thread Pushme - it's reassured me. I think we must be similar as my EDD is 18th Jan and I'm 37.

Congrats to all the other pg ladies too.

Have indulged in the luxury of booking a hotel just outside Weston-Super-Mare for the night before, so will only have a 12.5 mile journey instead of 4 hours. Hopefully means good parking spot for all those car trips. Was hoping to get there really early and be parked at the top of the hill near Gate D, but noticed on map that came with tickets that that field is now a family camper van/caravan field, so even further to walk and it's a steep hill. Bugger! I'm sure I'll manage. Person I'm travelling with (a male friend) is a bit weird about me going pg, but as I'm paying for the hotel, so we can be there early, hopefully he won't mind several trips to the car. Seems to be coming round now, I've told him it's one trip with tent & bed, one for rucksack and one for everything else. Plan is to tell his sister I'm pg when we offload the first trip and hope she comes with us to get the second, so we won't need to do three. She came to meet us last year, so I'm sure she will.

Now off to buy a shewee - are you allowed Vicks when pg?

Ninjacat · 17/05/2009 10:25

Just figured out I'll be 19wks at Glasto not 16wks. It's suddenly dawning on me that I've agreed to work 8 festivals this summer and at the last one I will be 31wks! What madness have I ageed to?
Just to make thing even easier DS (12yrs) fractured his thumb yesterday and will be in plastercast during Glastonbury.

IStoleSamsPony · 17/05/2009 11:14

Ooh I am so jealous.

I am 18 weeks with severe sickness, but would probably still at least attempt it given the chance

I want to go with the kids, but each year we plan something comes along and spends the glastonbury fund

hackneybird · 17/05/2009 12:26

It's funny how being st work when 10 weeks pg is really hardgoing, but when one does something fun such as a festival or (in my case) skiing, one feels great!

elkiedee · 17/05/2009 19:50

Hope you all have a great time - sounds like an MN meet up would be a good idea - if those of you with bumps now meet up you'll know others to meet up with next year with your young babies.

I've never been to Glastonbury but really enjoyed an open air music festival although no camping over 3 days when I was 11 weeks pregnant with ds1, we took him to a small part of the one the following year as well.

pushmepullme · 17/05/2009 20:53

A MN meetup would be a great idea, maybe us pregnant ladies could meet up by the portaloos with our sheewees

Really like the idea of meeting up the year after and so on. I expect next year, if all goes well, I will be in the family camping bit and it would nice to be with other people in a similar situation.

Thank you for all the encouragement, I suspect when/if I do tell everyone in real life about my bump there will be a few people saying 'well of course you will be cancelling Glastonbury, won't you?'

Ravgirl · 17/05/2009 22:21

Hi, I'll be 15 weeks pregnant with my first baby at Glastonbury this year. Like you pushmepullme I was terrified of ms as I have a real vomiting phobia but I'm 9+4 weeks at the moment, have just flown back from New Zealand today and have had no actual ms whatsoever, just a bit of quesiness which gets better when I eat something. I was terrified of the flights (30+ hours travelling) but I wore the travel bands just in case and they seemed to help.

I'm also a Glasto veteran - 17th year for me this year and reckon it's a fine place to be, just chill out and avoid the busy areas, so no dance tent this year! Good luck

hackneybird · 18/05/2009 11:06

pushme, if you think people are going to expect you to cancel Glasto then just don't tell them. I went skiing at 10 weeks (obv took it VERY easy)and deliberately didn't tell anyone as I knew people would try and talk me out of it.

My mum was appalled when she found out I'd been skiing, knowing I was PG.

pushmepullme · 18/05/2009 12:01

Lol - everyone knows I go to Glastonbury! it's ok though I'll just tell them I'm going (barring crippling morning sickness) and that's that!

OP posts:
Queenoftheharpies · 18/05/2009 12:19

At 10 weeks? Definitely go. The loos will be minging but I didn't hit the constantly needing a wee stage until long after. In fact at 26 weeks, I'm still finding that if I'm around people drinking beer, they need the loo more than I do!

Might be worth taking some hand-sterilizer gel / antibacterial wipes just to be on the safe side, and suitable snacks to keep you refuelled if there's nothing to hand you feel like eating. I was very lucky with morning sickness but did find that I'd feel nauseous if I got hungry, and also didn't fancy anything fatty, meaty or fishy.

hackneybird · 18/05/2009 14:21

Pushme - I meant don't tell them that you're PG! People frequently choose not to reveal all until they are past the magic 12 week stage anyway, as I'm sure you know.

I am VERY envious. I really want to go to Latitude this year, but I'll be 6 months and can't bear the thought of watching all my friends drinking and having fun whilst I go to bed at 10 pm and waddle around like a fat lump. I just won't be able to keep up.

Issy42 · 24/05/2009 19:23

Just thought I'd pop on to say that line up is being announced at 10pm tomorrow. Exciting .

My pg brain has already set in, accidentally ordered 2 shewees and one emergency-pee-in-the-night bag instead of the other way around. Doh! Luckily the bags come in pairs, which amazon didn't state, so have two anyway.

How is everyone?

Thandeka · 26/05/2009 09:25

Hello I just wanted to sneak in and join this thread since starting one the same would be silly!

This will be my first ever glasto- DH is from Street, Somerset and has been going since he was a nipper. I was going to be 5 months pregnant at glasto but unfortunately had an MMC at 10 weeks about 38 days ago. Now it looks quite possible am pregnant again (but very early days). I will be about 8 weeks when I go and am now completely shitting it about Glasto- we did get insurance but you are only covered with severe pregnancy symptoms that won't allow you to go- just being scared won't count. (I vaguely blame going to Thailand for my last MMC and swore I would be at home in a bubble if I ever got pregnant again so am really unsure I should go- am really scared I will miscarry again). On the plus side though I am staying in a caravan thanks to FiL (Although bloody DH is refusing to stay with me and is camping as it will ruin the experience).

I won't be drinking and DH and all his mates will be and I can't face the questions but also it is something you have to do once. Nargh! If I do go- an Mumsnet meet would be awesome- the pregnant glasto troopers- who lounge about on the chillout fields drinking fresh lemonade.

queenrollo · 26/05/2009 13:14

i'm not pregnant, but would be interested in popping along to an MN Glasto meet if you're having one......

Looked at the line-up yesterday and typically it looks like all the stuff i really want to see is going to clash!

Ninjacat · 26/05/2009 15:47

Thandeka Congratulations on your pg.

I think we were on the same anti natal thread. I'm really sorry to hear about your mmc.

From what I understand of mc there's not much you can do to cause one and if it's going to happen it will but I can understand your worry.

I will be working in the Thali Cafe so feel free to come and put your feet up any time.

Thandeka · 26/05/2009 15:58

Right so do you look like this but pregnant!?
