Glastonbury Festival at 10 weeks pregnant... is it madness?

I have just found out I am pregnant I have tickets for Glastonbury Festival. I don't want to waste my ticket (can't refund it now) and am planning to go. Am I mad?

This is my first pregnancy, I am in my late 30's. I am guessing that if I get morning sickness I will still have it at 10 weeks which could be a problem and also that I may be very tired. I have never been into the whole 'getting off my tits' thing, prefering to sit about and watch the world go by and catch a few bands and will have people with me who will be doing the same kind of thing.

Am I just nuts to consider it?

pushme - was it you that was thinking of cancelling when you had a faint +ve?

jennylindinha · 14/05/2009 11:16

Go - you'll be fine! I went last year and was 6 months pregnant and I had a great time. My main concern was mud as it was really bad the year before and I didn't want to fall on my bump, but in the end it wasn't too bad. If you have any sickness/cravings, make sure you take your favourite snacks/sweets etc and the ceral bar idea is a good one. There's so much good healthy food to buy there though that your diet won't suffer I'm sure.

I'm taking DD this year, so things will be different again! She'll be 9 months old - eek, what madness is this?!

By the way, you may want to consider buying a shewee so you don't have to go near the loo seats. They take some practice but I found it invaluable.

Have a great time, and let's pray for sun!

mwff · 14/05/2009 11:18

it was the tiredness as much as the sickness that got me in the first trimester, but as long as you take earplugs you should be fine. and if you're laid back about not being too worried if you miss particular acts you'll be fine. after all it's good practice for when s/he's born, cos you're unlikely to catch a full set uninterrupted for a while then ;)

sparkleandshine - no it wasn't me - you mean this thread. I read it at the time and didn't know I was pregnant then! I did a test the day after that thread and it said 'not pregnant' but then re-tested 3 days later and got a positive

was interested in that thread though.

jennylindinha thanks for the link, I will get one. I have never used the Sheepees at Glastonbury but am sure I could get the hang of the sheewee thing.

I thin I would be more confident a bit further along and it's just the prospect of awful morning sickness which is scaring me a bit.

mwff I was hoping the tiredness would be so extreme that I would just drift off but I will get some earplugs too

ActivityApple am probably going to camp in the same place I usually do (pennards) but maybe a little further away from the stone circle because of the noise. I will be with other people (some with older children) and am not sure if I should tell them that I am pregnant.

Also have to let my OH know that he;ll be carrying my stuff as well as his!!

Hello all,

it was me on the other thread and I decided not to sell my ticket in the end. all my mates are heading down on the wednesday for the full 5 days. I will be 11 weeks pregnant and am going to decide what to do nearer the time. If I am really suffering with sickness (had it really bad with both previous pregnancies) I will not be able to face going and will endeavour to claim back my money for ticket on the insurance I took out with seetickets. (may not be easy).

if I'm feeling OK am thinking of going down maybe on saturday morning, staying one night and watching a few sunday bands heading off sunday early evening. DH has agreed to spend that time laying off any wild partying so he can hang around with me and come to bed with me when I inevitably get tired well before everyone else. I really didn't want him to have to "have a quite glastonbury" for the whole thing, and I don't want to spend 5 days with loads of wild partying friends and going to my tent all on my own. (i know - what a wuss). not looking foward to the long journey there and back on my own though. mainly it all depends on the sickness - if I'm sick then no way.

btw - shepees are great but take your own rather than using the cardboard ones provided. I have a fantastic purple silicone one that just flicks dry and is much more "secure". I have had a cardboard one collapse on me before due to being desparate with a bladder full of lager!! not a pleasant experience

pushmepullme · 14/05/2009 14:24

Hi Sersi

Maybe we can compare notes when we get back!

I am still planning on going down on the Wednesday and staying til Monday, quite possibly I am mad

Ps - when are you due? The online caluculator things say I'm due Jan 16th. Perhaps we are completely in synch?

Go! I'm going with a 6yr old and a 4 month old baby! Can't wait!

Sersi · 14/05/2009 14:48

hi pushmepullme - due date 15th Jan (or 14th or 16th) depending on my cycle length changing by a day or two - not sure what it is as has varied.

was just thinking - having been at all the worst glastonbury's since 90's in terms of the rain. the weather may have an impact. if it is not dry 'tis much much harder to get around and there are hardly any places to sit so you end up carting a chair with you everywhere. I usually just plonk myself on the grass wherever I find myself wanting to hang about - just not possible in some conditions.

Sersi · 14/05/2009 14:50

was it '04?? think it was but had a river flowing past tent I could have white water rafted down.

pushmepullme · 14/05/2009 15:02

yeah - I was there that year, luckily at the top of pennards so no river but it was awful - we didn't even know how bad it was at first because we always cut across into the sacred space rather than walking down towards the other stage so it was a real shock when we finally saw all the tents under the water!!

I spend a lot of time at the smaller stages and the cabaret area so am hoping whatever the weather I can plonk myself somewhere. I don't want to be tent bound.

Maybe I should keep an open mind and decide nearer on the day depending on how badly the morning sickness gets me. I just hope I get it early and it doesn't last too long

I'd say plan to go, cos if you don't, you'll really regret it - it'll be much easier to go while pg (unless you are one of the unlucky ones who gets bad MS) than with a baby!

Many people don't get MS at all, many more only get it mildly & even then you might feel better with the distractions of a festival than at home. Same goes for tiredness - I didn't have any problems at 10 weeks beyond a very tight waistband. So give it a try, you can always not go if you do start feeling rough in the run-up to it.

jellyhead68 · 14/05/2009 15:15

A friend went one year and she had terrible morning sickness before and after, but while there she felt much better! She even toyed with pitching a tent in the garden when she got home in case it was sleeping in the fresh air that had helped!

Also, I went to Glasto when 4mths pregnant and had a ball - I did bow out gracefully and let my mates go off dancing until the wee small hours each night, but I still had fun.

Go enjoy!

hes222 · 14/05/2009 15:16

So it will be a different experience to the usual one, but worth it nonetheless.... I went when I was pregnant last year and had a a ball. Go for it, I say!

pushmepullme · 14/05/2009 15:50

thanks all, I am so glad no one thinks I am crazy

Not quite Glastonbury but I went to see the Foo Fighters and Motorhead at Hyde Park when I was quite heavily pregnant (1st child and 40) - I like to think the dulcet tomes of Lemmy permeated into the womb for my DD to hear. She is very loud so they probably did....

staylucky · 14/05/2009 17:59

Go go go go go go go go go go!!!!!

I am v Jealous, I was about to book our tickets when I fell on and my due date is far too close to the actual weekend. Also missing Wireless this year and Streets are headlining.

I went to gigs and dub nights all through my early months and I like to think he enjoyed it! Only when I hit 24 weeks and passed out from too much dancing that my DH banned me from any more.

Has anyone been to Glasto with a baby??? I really want to take the kids, next year mine will be 6 & almost 1.

poshsinglemum · 14/05/2009 18:03

I'm . Am not pregnant but didn't get tickets for this year. Enjoy!

Ninjacat · 14/05/2009 18:05

We should have a pregnant ladies tent with bean bags, low light and soft music.....

Sersi · 14/05/2009 18:21

all this Glastonbury talk is getting me excited....am now thinking sod it, will cope with everything, go with mates for the full 5 days and have a blast. Will miss the pear cider and the smokes, but will be living without them for forseeable future anyway. mayaswell have compensation of being at Glastonbury.

only sickness can stop me now......lets hope we're all on good form. will definitely have to check out how we all got on.

staylucky - seems rude not to use my ticket when you're out there missing the whole thing....although with fanatastic compensation of course.

staylucky · 14/05/2009 18:24

Sersi · 14/05/2009 18:27

"Camp Kerala is located on private land, three minute walk to Gate C of the Festival, with Camp Kerala vehicles on hand 24hrs a day to ferry guests to and from the backstage Winnebago."

only 3 minutes but vehicles on hand 24hrs a day ....... think I'd then feel a tad guilty going up to the greenfields!!!!

staylucky · 14/05/2009 18:29

Ah Sersi you'll have a fab time

I will enjoy watching it on the TV this year.....The start of Summer always makes me excited about festivals...and music....and dancing in the sunshine...ah you lucky things!!!!!!

Am having some of these for next year
