Who can claim to be the oldest mother at delivery of her last child here?

Please indulge me, yes, I AM nosey, but also wondering whether to think about TTC#4 is mad as I am now 43?

Positive stories, as well as not so good ones if you are prepared to share, all eagerly anticipated.

I was almost 43 when I gave birth to Dd in Dec 06...Ask me if I'd have another baby given the chance now at 45...Yes, I would!

I have a friend that had a baby at 47 a little before I had Dd too.

I know one lady who had her first and only child at 45 by donor insemination. I see her at the school gates at times, and she does look a bit like her DC's gran .

I was 37 for my first and 43 for my second. And I don't think I look like a granny. Denial is a wonderful thing - PacificDogwood would probably think I do!

'Tis more that I worry about my looks myself if I were to be lucky enough to have another: what would it be like to be 60 with a 15/16 year old teenager ??
BTW, I had DS1 aged 37, DS2 at 38 and DS3 at 42, so her, certainly not one to throw the first stone .

Obviously, 47 beats me, but I'll be 43 when I have #4 in August.

40 when dc 5 was born in 2007. TTC#6 now, and hopefully will be 43 when it's born.

I was 41 when I had dd1 and 43 when I had dd2,and I am weighing up trying again,at 45.I got pregant in a wink each time,luckily.

Thats PREGNANT sorry not pregant(I am bf round the clock,I don't have a brain).

I know somone who had her first at,I think 46 or 47.

My good friend was born when her mother was 46.

Maybe there should be a thread asking children of geriatric more mature mothers how they feel about the fact that their playmates granny was younger than their mums ?

I keep trying to argue that my boring clean living life style has ensured that I look decades younger than I am...

A good friend of mine had her second child at age 48, natural conception, actually an accident, she had an easy pregnancy, quick labour, baby born full term in perfect health. She is so happy as she thought she'd missed her chance to have a second after a few miscarriages in her early 40s.

Well pacific dogwood,if it gives you hope,it took about a quarter of an hour from my dh saying "we should get on with it if we want another" to me being pregnant.Just think positive..!

There's a thread somewhere on this topic about older mums and quite a few people posted who had older mums themselves and were really very positive about the benefits.

Everyone seems to be worrying about the age factor of having another baby since being in their 40's! You are as young as you feel and as the saying is life begins at 40, so if your health is fine and you truely want another baby or it be your first child, you go girl.. Think of it like this why is it ok for men to still be making babies in their 40's,50's even 60's + and why should we get pin pointed as the granny at the school gates. I mean i am not 40 but my mum had my half brother when she was in her late 30's. God rest her sole she pasted away to cancer 2 years this year and then i lost my dad to cancer 2 months after my mum, very hard and hurts like hell knowing they will never meet and bond with this baby

Not me, but

My aunty had her last child at 44.

My grandmother had her last child at 44.

Two close family friends in similar boat - one had her babies at 39 and 43, the other had her babies at 40 and 43.

Oh, and one of my mum's best friends had her first and only child at 48, naturally conceived, too.

Just thought of another one - a neighbour - had her one and only DD at 46,.

You are right, of course, some of it is about how old you feel, however biology (unfairly) is the way it is: higher risks for older mothers WAY before the risk for older fathers rise significantly, v galling, but no point in not being realistic about it.

I suppose part of my hesitation is due to the fact that I had 3 healthy children in my late 30/early 40s and feel I might be pushing my luck if I tried again - not rational, but there you go!!

The odds of things being just fine are in your favour PacificDogwood. True, there are more risks with being older, but most will not experience those problems.

Biggest factor may be getting pregnant...you may be blessed with prolonged fertility, some women are, but if you decide to go ahead, you may want to consider starting some testing early on (after a few months) if you haven't been successful. Partner as well.....men will also begin to experience some fertility issues as they get older.

Someone I knew through local m+t groups became preggers at... 56! She quite reasonably thought her lack of periods was menopause. The doc gave her the happy news rather late into her pregnancy. Totally natural conception, obviously, kid perfectly healthy. I do think she found the whole experience significantly more draining than with her other kids from her younger days, though. As you would expect really!

doualc, yes, I am aware of the fertility issues - for me, that is, DH is toy boy at mere 39 !!

Respect to that older mum! wow! think I may have had a breakdown myself at that age...
