Today I have mostly been ... drinking the firey vinegar from a jar of jalapenos.. .

It's the vinegary, chili rush as it goes down my throat. I keep nipping out to the kitchen for a quick sip. I now have tummy ache and I know I'm going to suffer when it 'leave the building' so to speak. .

Anyone else with me on this vile craving?

Okay, I realise I am now going to sound like a weirdo, but I also eat bubbles in the bath. However, I occasionally did that when not pregnant ! I have wanted to eat them more since though...

I also (this is far worse) like to suck the sponge..... and chew it. How disgusting am I??

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 07/05/2009 15:41

I'm not alone!

sammysam · 07/05/2009 16:40

Thank god i'm not alone! I normally like salty things but at the moment I can't get enough! I had to stop myself from drinking the vinegar from the olives the other day-I wish I hadn't now!!! I too found the olives stuffed with jalepenos-I can't find them again now they were so so good that I ate the whole lot in one go did end up with a ring of fire though!!!

audreyraines · 07/05/2009 17:28

yep, drink watered down cider vinegar. eat olives and artichokes by the bucketfull. also salt and vinegar pringles very necessary. need chilli in every meal. ah, thank god i'm not the only one.

I had the EXACT same craving as OP with DS. This then went on to French Fancies dipped in the stuff. Bleuuurgh.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 08/05/2009 09:56

I had to have a pickled egg a day while pg with ds2!

twounderone · 08/05/2009 11:27

I'm pregnant with our third, and I have the same two odd cravings with this bump as the older girls - porridge oats (uncooked and dry) and salt. I have a little dish of rock salt beside my bed and just lick my finger and dab into the salt in the night. Normal diet is probably low salt as we never even add it to veg I'm cooking (dr said made sense when at 30 weeks baby needed sodium.) The oats is a craving for the really bone dry feeling in my mouth, I think to counter-act the constant stomach acid rising up into my mouth. Thankfully both these cravings pass as soon as the baby gets to 36 weeks...!

Tzone tea tree face wipes, couldn't get enough of them, would sit like a child with a noo noo blanket smelling them all day. When I ran out on holiday my DH caught me with my nose in the empty packet, I was like a junkie with them until the moment DD was born! I even had scratches on my nose from sniffing the inside of the wipes packet. Cravings are weird!!

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 08/05/2009 14:10

Well I obviously over-did it last night as had a really upset tum this morning and was screaming 'ring of fire' from the loo . Little sympathy from dh who did warn me...

For those who have ventured into pickled eggs you really should give it go, especially on the side with a portion of chip-shop chips. .

For my first pg nearly 14 yr ago i had craving for Pickled eggs, dad had to go to the whole salers and buy me a big jar of them. I also had a craving for sardine & tomato paste(also bought me a case of jars from wholesalers)i had to have that with a cheese slice on bread and butter. Now pg again and i love my sardine & tomato paste again but on crusty bread(toasted). And a few weeks ago it was having to be ham on toast with mustard for my breakfast. Of a evening it is bbq sauce flavour pringles & cherry coke and a apple before i go to sleep.

Chewing bath sponges and sucking up bubble-bath bubbles here too .

Don't accidentally chew off a portion of sponge and swallow it in surprise - it chokes you .

I have been sniffing a hot water bottle bought specifically for this purpose (mmmmmmm rubber) from a shop that smells of delicious householdy rubbery items and which I go in sometimes just to sniff - they must think I'm a goit in there.

I have chewed the sides of my tongue to shreds too.

Only 1 week to due date and possible normality

My mum craved creosote, tar, and coal with me. She spent 9 months in B&Q.

Apparently coltesfoot rock satisfied the craving but I don't know if they still do that.

Anyway, I have ALWAYS craved the smells, and when I was pregnant I just wanted to eat them even more.

paula87 · 08/05/2009 17:02

am perg wi 3rd n love tost wi jam butter n penut butter n chessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssee lovey

llynnnn · 08/05/2009 17:27

I LOVE the smell (and taste only a tiny nibble honestly ) of tissue!! so bizzarre!!

woollyjo · 08/05/2009 19:18

I like the smell of creosote even when I'm not pg!

This time it has been cereal bowls of buttered peas ..mmm...

Am I the only one who craves beer? both now and with my previous pg the fizzier the better although DH only lets me have sips, I'm usually a real ale girl and wouldn't touch lager.

Sazisi · 08/05/2009 21:08

When I was pregnant I kept a tube of wasabe in the fridge, which I would squeeze out onto my finger and lick off while saying "whoo!" and shivering

QueenFee · 08/05/2009 21:17

I had similar cravings with DD I would eat platefulls of pickled onions and beetroot!

crankytwanky · 08/05/2009 23:58

I "needed" chili and spice. I ate English mustard sarnies and chili pickle out of the jar. Actually ordered a vindaloo, and loved it. Didn't effect me either, iyswim. Once baby arrived however, I couldn't take the heat.

notjustanumber · 09/05/2009 06:59

I craved washing powder, soap and fresh linen. In the end I had to find some sweets that tasted like soap

And cucumber. At least half a day in the evening for several months....

SpookyMadMummy · 09/05/2009 08:04

I craved neat orange squash with Dd1 I used to have it diluted and just a small glass of it neat otherwise I would have had the ring if fire too
With Dd2 I craved salted pistachios, but it wasn't the nut, it was sucking the salt off the shell!!
Much more sensible with Dd3, although I did eat far too much soft fruit, peaches, grapes etc

audreyraines · 09/05/2009 08:16

i'm the same about washing powder. the smell of persil wool wash - ahhh bliss!

nelix2000 · 09/05/2009 08:31

ooh so glad others wanted to eat bath sponges!!! I wanted mine soaked in Dettol first tho!! so used to bath in the stuff to keep cravings at bay!! this time round to start with it was the vinigar from pickled onion jars, now moved on to varying smells of new books, plastic....and sponges again lol!!!

roseability · 09/05/2009 12:12

My husband and I were painting at the weekend. The smell of white spirits almost sent me wild

I have to have a can of coca cola daily! Not gross but lethal for the teeth!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 09/05/2009 12:45

'When I was pregnant I kept a tube of wasabe in the fridge, which I would squeeze out onto my finger and lick off while saying "whoo!" and shivering'

Sazisi that made me laugh A LOT.

ladylush · 09/05/2009 19:21

I love the smell of micropore (surgical) tape but don't fancy eating it. Ice lollies are my thing this pg - very tame compared to lots of you. Last pg it was fresh pineapple and french fries (not together).
