I have an apptment tomorrow (13 weeks) and my mw told me she will be listening for a hearbeat.

anniecam38 · 04/05/2009 13:11

Mine will not listen before 16 weeks.

anjlix · 04/05/2009 13:22

My booking appointment was at 10 weeks. I was surprised when the midwives said they might be able to hear the heartbeat then as I am sure I waited longer to hear with my older children. They warned me not to be disappointed if the machine couldn't pick it up but in fact they did manage to hear it. I am now 16 weeks.

I heard at my booking in at 10 weeks, but it was with a sort of trumpet looking thing rather than proper scan. First scan at 14 weeks due to bleeding, but they didnt listen to heartbeat then.

Oops! I seem to have missed the bit about ultrasound in the question. This was just with a microphone on my abdomen. If you mean see the heartbeat at an ultrasound scan, I think it can sometimes be seen at 6 weeks with a vaginal scan. I've never been scanned that early.

anniecam38 · 04/05/2009 13:28

You can see a heartbeat on a TV scan at 6 weeks.

paula87 · 04/05/2009 14:28

niver seen the scan bit my furst scan was at 6 wk n they seen baby hart beat

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 04/05/2009 14:31

My MWes in both pgs have not tried to listen to the hearbeat until after the 20 week scan

mosschops30 · 04/05/2009 14:32

do you mean the doppler? A heartbest can be seen on ultrasound from about 6/7 weeks.
Can be heard on doppler from about 10 wks if youre slight, but most are loathe to do it before 14/15 weeks

welshbyrd · 04/05/2009 14:38

im 40+3 weeks, and at my 12 week appt midwife couldnt pick up heartbeat, but all appts after that could hear heart beat
congrats btw !!!

mcflumpy · 04/05/2009 14:45

16 weeks for me.

CoteDAzur · 04/05/2009 17:32

Ultrasound picked it up at 7 weeks.

madmissy · 04/05/2009 19:32

picked up at 8-10 weeks with my first two on the doppler but im fairly slim.. not sure how easy it will be this time lol

JRocks · 04/05/2009 19:59

I heard this one at 15 weeks, but the mw had warned me beforehand it can be difficult at that stage because they are still very tiny

Tamlin · 04/05/2009 20:18

Mine managed to get it on the doppler at eleven weeks, when I had a bleeding scare although it took her a while - she picked it up again at thirteen weeks straight away. I think that usually they don't try until you're fifteen or sixteen weeks (and with my first child, they still had trouble due to the anterior placenta).
