11 1/2 weeks pregnant and feel like I might have a mild UTI - should I go to the doctors?

Hi there

The title says it all really but every now and then (when not pregnant) I get a stinging when weeing and it is really mild and clears itself up after a day or so with lots of fluid and wishful thinking so I never bother to do anything (we're talking about once every year or two). I once had a really bad UTI when I was pregnant the second time and didn't do anything about it, I miscarried three weeks later (no idea whether the two were related). This time the infection, if it is one, is really mild (ie just stinging when weeing but not excruciating by any means) but since midwives etc are always going on about UTIs and pregnancy I am wondering whether I need to go to the doctor anyway on Tuesday? Any thoughts / advice anyone?

I probably would as you have a history and utis irritate the cervix and can potentially cause them to dilate, hence miscarrying. You will have to take a course of antibiotics which will hopefully clear it up.

Hiya,
Yep you need to go to the doctors, I had an UTI a couple of weeks ago, and they said if left it can get really bad and cause a mc. I had 5 days of anti's and it went away. Best of luck

I'd get it seen to.
It may well go away anyway, but your immune system is compromised when pg and UTIs which do not go away quickly like to travel up to the kidneys and set up home. Then you end up with high temps, build up of toxins and so on.
Not worth the pain and worry imo.

Thanks everyone, I will ring the doctors on Tuesday. I hate taking antibiotics (last time they made me feel really peculiar) but it sounds like it is not worth the risk. It does make me wonder whether the UTI I had before caused my miscarriage. I'll never know.

sounds like you may have had a reaction to the last antibiotics you took. I had similar and was put on different course of tablets. Also it didn't clear up properly because they had not diagnosed the right bacteria causing infection. Once they got this sorted, I was put on a different set of antibiotics (3rd time lucky i guess) and everything cleared.

Not sure if you are ttc but 3 months from clearing the infection I fell pregnant, now 26 weeks along xx
