Was this just a short period or could I be pregnant?

Hello

Changed name here.

My periods are normally 5-7 days long.

This month I started two days late and it only lasted three days and was much lighter than normal, the last day was especially light.

I know we had unprotected sex around ovualtion days but not that whole way , we do want a third child so I would be delighted but were were going to try next year.

The reason we have not been trying is because I was training for the marathon and did it on Sunday which is probably why my period was late.

Could it have just been a normal period and just very short because I did the marathon or is there a chance i could be pregnant even though i has three day light period.

Basically I am wondering whether or not to go out and buy a test? Am I being silly?

My mum did have a short period all the way through on my sis so i would buy one to put your mind at ease hope its good news

brightonbleach · 01/05/2009 10:43

I would buy a test, but only going on my own experience, this January - I was 10 days late which I never am, & then period was lght & only 2 days, which is very short for me. however, the test i did on that day was negative, but I found I was pregnant a few weeks later, and the dates show I was most likely already pregnant when I had the unusual period mentioned :-) (Doc said the test I did on the 10th day of being late might have shown as neg becuase of low HCG levels. sometimes you have to do another test a few days later)
Boots do their own make of tests which are cheaper than the others? all the best!

outandabout · 01/05/2009 11:23

thanks - will see if my boots has cheap tests.

it may just be light because of the marathon, i was due on the day of the marathon but came on two days later

Not gone yet, got caught up with cleaning

Not bled at all today but feel cramps now and then.

I'm going to buy a test and not tell dh, last year i drove him bad wasting so much money.

I've been wanting another since early last year and my dh has agreed then changed his mind so many times.

At the momeny we are back to a yes.

I know its only a small chance i could be.

Hi outandabout - I had a very light period, on day three I did a pg test and it came back a very feint +. I kept bleeding lightly for a week. I'm now 11wks pg.
Of course exercise can also effect your cycle. A test is probably the best way to go.

outandabout · 01/05/2009 15:52

ninjacat - that sounds promising!

i feel a bit crampy and slightly sicky, i know its a bit early for that though.

going to get test and see.

part of me thinks that if i am pregnant then maybe i'm losing it because being pregnant and running 26.2 miles surely can not be good?

so maybe i should not test so not to upset myself... but then I want to know.

If you are it does not mean you are losing, but if you are pg you need to know before you do something that will make you lose it. Also you trained to run the marathon which means your body will be used to it, so I doubt it would cause you to miscarry. They say to keep up most exercises you were doin b4 being pg but not to start any new ones.

Ninjacat · 01/05/2009 16:11

I don't think exercise at such an early stage would be make you mc. Everything's pretty cushioned inside you.

The big signs for pg that I know a lot of people get early on - Very sensitive sense of smell and sore breasts.

A pg test will at least give you an answer one way or the other. If you're not pg then you can start taking folic acid and start ttc (if that's what you want - or use better protection if it's not), if you are but you mc (and there's really nothing you could have done to cause that!) then at least you will know you can conceive. And if its + and all is well then.....

All the best,

N

So annoying!

Got test and thought I had a good wee, only pee'd on it for few seconds, defintely not 5 like instructed on instructions.

Neg

But I guess if I was then there would have been a faint line at least.

Ah well!

I hate pregnancy tests!!!

I must be coming down with something because I'm so tired and pale.

Sorry about negative test. hopefully next month if you are still trying

Ninjacat · 01/05/2009 19:17

Sorry it's negative.

If you are going to start trying are you taking folic acid?

Hope all goes well.

brightonbleach · 01/05/2009 19:25

mine was neg & then pos a few weeks later (& scans show size of baby means I was preggers at time of neg test), so if you have bought a multi-pack of cheaper tests (even the pound shops do preg tests now believe it or not!) then keep one back for a week or two's time just to be sure :-)

good luck with it, if not this time then soon, fingers crossed for you.

outandabout · 01/05/2009 19:26

Ninjacat, I was taking it up until a few months ago but because I was training for the mararthon we were not trying. Except last cycle, two weeks before marathon (silly of us) we had sex a few times.

I am going to go back on pregnacare tomorrow. So its for the best that I am not really. Would have worried about that and I dont want a Jan baby. So many of my family are born in Jan

A valentines baby would be nice!

I like the idea of a valentines baby and as my DS was born in Feb I think it's a very good month indeed.

Enjoy trying
