Calling mothers of three boys!!

Just contemplating a third child and chances are it will probably be another boy to add to my other 2 DSs (boys run in both our families)......many of my friends think I am mad, but I am determined to have another!! CAn you give me some positive points about the benefits of having three boys so I can have some answers ready when the kill joys start to question my choice!

My friend has 3 boys - always said she would have as well, and they are a lovely family. The boys play really nicely together, they all pass clothes down to each other and I don't think my friend and her DH would have their family any other way! Interestingly her sister has got 3 girls!! Go for it I say!

we've two boys and are contemplating a third and if I had my druthers, I'd prefer another boy. I think three boys might cut the inevitable competition between the two I already have (although the little one is too young for that still).

Can't answer on the joys of three boys (just getting my head around the idea that'll I'll have two soon), but would just say that every family I know with 3 children (about 8) has 2 same gender, followed by one of the opposite, so who knows.

Positives people have given me for having two boys include being great friends with each other, and having time to yourself relatively quickly because they can all do stuff together that maybe a girl wouldn't (eg night away camping with dad). In fact DH being able to juggle them all more easily than if they have different wants is high on my list - surely that's the same?!

Also, of course, you get to avoid pink stuff.

Don't people say "you're mad" about things like this when they're thinking that children are like toys/presents rather than real people?

Hmmm, well Ihave two wonderful, cute smart toddler boys, and I am pregnant with a third child, though it's too early to know what sex it is... I have to admit to wanting to have a girl now, I think if we had three boys out house would be destroyed... they're in the let's jump off everything' stage of life, and DS2 just copies everything DS1 does, whether he is physically able to do it, or not. Usually he justs get stuck in wierd places of the house..

you do realise if you convince yourself you are happy to have 3 boys you will end up with a girl to complicate things ?

I have 3 boys (including id twins) - it works for us. They play together, share clothes, toys etc. They have the same peer group - so you can cut down on the party invites and playdate circle - simplifies the social calendar

And in the end - they are all individuals - and you get what you get - so you will manage with whoever you end up with.

I definately think that the "ease factor" is high....shared clothes, toys, interests etc. not to mention the same school (DS1 is at an all boys school, so it would save on 2 school runs)...though the destruction element is a worry. My 2 boys are like a whirlwind and can take all the toys out and spread them around the room in about two minutes flat (that is, when they are not jumping on the furniture!!!!)

JAckaroo - That's interesting to know that your friends have always had the different sex third time around.....I remember reading something aout the fact that once you have had 2 boys the likelihood of a third is about 88%!!!

I have 3 boys (7,almost 4, just 2). House is still intact. Noise levels have risen dramatically, but I always wanted boys anyway, so most the time it is a joy to me .
Having spoken to many of my friends who have 3 of whatever gender/mix, we all agree that the hard work is having 3! For example, my neighbour has 3 girls, and we moan about the same things when we see each other .

We have 3 boys - boys are brill!! when we go on holiday all 3 want to share a room,although there is a biggish age gap 15,13 and 8 they all get on really well.

My downside is that people think its a 'shame' i dont have a daughter - I would love a dd but i wouldnt swap a ds for one.

Incidentally dh was married before (many moons ago) and had 3 girls!!

I have 3 boys- 4, 8 and 10. People still ask when we're going for the girl?! Yes, that is still annoying.

I love having boys and was delighted when number 3 was a boy, although they would love to have a sister and regularly campaign for one!

The boys generally get on really well, they have similar interests. If you cope with the intricacies of pokemon, star wars and transformers, that's great.

I have 2 boys- 2 and 4. DC3 due in 11days, we don't know what it is but would love another boy. Think life would definitely be easier with three boys than throwing a girl into the mix now. However, of course would be thrilled with any healthy baby.

However, be prepared that when you are pregnant everyone will assume you want a daughter and tell you so in a pitying way and / or that you are crazy to be considering a third at all. Mainly just throwaway comments but it def helps to expect it and have retorts ready!

I feel if we have another boy we can all carry on doing things together as a whole family, I see lots of families split into mum and girl / dad and boy activities as is harder to please everyone- just an observation.

Also, think I would rather have 3 equal daughters-in-law in the future than two DILS and one daughter- that's based on my experience of in-laws !!

Anyway, I say go for it- I know I can't wait to be a Mum of 3.

For me the biggest advantage to having three boys was that I got to have a totally Barbie-free house!! We didn't have to have any My Little Pony or Polly Pocket either - or indeed any sparkly pink or purple crap stuff.

Seriously though, I love having my three boys - they are affectionate and cuddly (even the 15-year-old). They've been brought up to be helpful too, and to help with heavy jobs round the house - putting the rubbish out etc.

The downside is feeling a bit outnumbered - I am the only female in the house - even the cat's a boy (or was, at any rate ). It's also harder to impress the need and desirability of hygiene on boys (in my experience) - ds2 and ds3 are still soap-dodgers, but ds1 is more fragrant and hygienic - so there's hope! And, of course, it means the bathroom's not tied up for hours on end.

I had 2 DSs and when expecting DC3 fully expected (and desperately hoped for) another DS, I got fed up with people going 'oooh trying for a girl' etc and was positively horrible about girls .

I had a girl. Now getting fed up with 'ooh...you got your girl then?'
but she's lovely and chilled and hopefully will be tomboyish like me.

So, you might have a girl, it's possible.

However I still feel a little (really though I'm just happy for a healthy baby) when I hear about people with 3 boys. Pros would be bedroom situations, no new nappy change technique to master, and you'd be Queen Bee still.

I'm expecting dc3 in june and expecting it to be another boy although hoping its a girl, I'd like not to be seriously outnumbered and would love a daughter as I'm very close to my mum, for the record I was a tomboy - now an engineer - and hated all that pink crap too so if I have 3 boys then I think it'll be great because we are a very active outdoorsey family and my two boys are like puppys, into everything and very loud so love being active. I can't imagine having a third dc that isn't like that,

ignore what everyone says - I hate the 'so trying for a girl' and was gutted when people said 'are you disappointed?' when I was holding my 2 day old ds2, people say such stupid things I've started saying stupid things back, I stole a line from MN and when people ask 'what are you hoping for?' I usually say that I have 2 children so a kitten would be nice or a giraffe as they get up and walk and can feed them selfs after a few hours of being born' that usually shuts them up enough for me to move onto something else

whatever the gender each child is so different that you'll end up with a real mix, ds1 and ds2 play so well together but are completely diff characters, those with one of each sex will tell you its a boy girl thing but for the early years it def isn't (can't comment on later mine are still preschool)

Insywinsy - wrt having a kitten instead of a baby - my friend always used to say that she wanted to have a puppy, but we told her that the ears would tickle......
