My Sons pre-school has had an outbreak of slapped cheek syndrome- I've heard of it and know preggars ladies should avoid. If son gets it-- what do I need to do??? Or should I keep him off- just incase???

You need to ask your MW or GP.

Agree with norktasticninja. I've just got back from blood tests at the doctors because it's going round my school at the moment. Head practically barricaded me in an empty classroom then drove me home and told me not to come back ! Apparently there's a high chance you're immune anyway, but you can check with a blood test.

Thanks for that ladies- I will ring the mw later xx

Agree with the rest - speak to your midwife. If you are under 20 weeks (and most especially if you are under 12 weeks) and your son has a confirmed case then you will need a blood test to determine your immunity. If you are immune then there is nothing to worry about, if you are not and additionally are shown to be having an outbreak yourself then you should be referred for further investigation. This is usually a series of scans. If you are not immune but not having an outbreak then it's usually a case of a watching brief.

It's pointless keeping your son off as you would need to do it indefinately - slapped cheek circulates widely in the community throughout the year. You could conceivably catch from anyone, not just your son or other children. Main message is speak to your midwife, and don't panic

Ok thanks for that!! He has no sign of it but they say its contagious before the rash appears!!! So I wll ring in the morning and check I did think about ringing delivery suite-- but sure they have enough going on!!

So its a case of watching and seeing if he gets itxx
