I imagine that some of you lovely ladies have also been prescribed low-dose (75mg) aspirin daily for use throughout pregnancy...

I just have a quick question- did you find you spotted a little in the first trimester around when your period would have been due (e.g. 8 weeks)?

I started aspirin (due to history of severe pre-eclampsia) at 7 weeks and am now about 8 weeks, and have just had a little spotting this morning (not bright red or I would be calling the midwife). I had this happen also for a couple of days at around this stage in my last pregnancy, and all was fine- and I was on aspirin then too- however I had no spotting at all with my first pregnancy when I didn't use aspirin. Just wondering if there could be a link between the spotting and aspirin, as it is thinnning the blood etc.

I am of course hoping this spotting is following what happened with the last pregnancy, fingers crossed.. had a good scan on thurs and all was fine...

I'm taking low dose aspirin for the same reason as you but didn't start until 12 weeks, didn't have any spotting. However I did spot in my first pg between about 4-6 weeks when I wasn't taking aspirin and ds was completely fine (apart from the pre-eclampsia...).

I am now a week past the point where I got my first PET symptoms last time and so far am fine, so hopefully the aspirin is doing something!

If you are worried maybe you could give your mw a ring, although as it happened in your last pg and you have had a good scan I'm sure all is fine. Good luck

Thank you for your reply Liege. Thankfully spotting has pretty much stopped so hopefully it is just following what happened in my last pregnancy.

How are you doing? How far on are you now? I really hope it continues to be a healthy, lengthy and PE-free pregnancy
I really do believe the aspirin helped greatly during my pregnancy with DD- my BP did eventually start an upward trend and my consultant decided to deliver based on my BP and history as soon as we were in "safe" gestational territory (36 weeks), which in my mind was still a great success, and I was only classed as having mild PE- nothing like my previous experience!

I did find it strange passing the milestones I had from my first pregnancy, it's quite nervewracking- but I had great support from an excellent consultant which made all the difference to my mental health!!

jjf I had spotting twice in this pregnancy at 6 and 7.5 weeks. I wasn't on aspirin until 20 weeks (when i first saw consultant) but do have a history of PE. Good luck for the rest of a healthy pregnancy. I'm now 32 weeks and BP is rising but hopefully won't go much further, started at 28 weeks last time so already better.
