Anterior, low lying placenta...any experiences?

I had my 20wk scan today which went very well. The baby was very active, healthy and measuring spot on.
The sonographer saw that the placenta is lying very very low and is at the front (anterior). I have to be re-scanned at 34wks to see if it has moved. Has anyone had a similar finding at their 20wk scan and then gone on to find that the placenta has moved in the correct direction?
Many thanks.

I believe it is very common for them to move up, especially if they are anterior.

Someone more knowledgeable will not doubt come along soon, but I don't think you should start to worry just yet.

My 20 wk scan said I had a low lying placenta. I'm 31-33 weeks now and convinced the baby's engaging (3rd pregnancy) which I am assuming wouldn't be happening if my placenta was still low lying.

Apparently hospital have new scanning equipment now and for some reason these are producing a far higher level of low lying placenta results and re-scanning requests. My midwife isn't sure why. It can be common for the placenta to be lying low and then shift as the pregnancy goes on. However, if the 34 week scan shows that the placenta is, not just low lying, but actually blocking the birth canal, they will probably re-scan you right up until you're in labour. If the birth canal is obstructed then obviously you'll have to have a c-section.

But please don't worry about it too much now. I did all that and then spoke to a couple of other pregnant mums and my midwife. The 20 weeks scan really hasn't said much so enjoy the pregnancy and feel lucky you're getting an extra scan!

I'm too in this position, currently 24 weeks and booked in for re-scan at 34 weeks. My consultant is very confident my placenta will move up which makes me believe this is a fairly common thing.

Good luck

I had anterior, extending to os at 21 week scan. I had my 34 week scan on Thursday and placenta had moved well away, and was no longer anywhere near. From what I can gather, 90% or more low lying placentas move by the time ladies are rescanned, so don't panic just yet! Though I suppose it could be a different story is the placenta is actually covering the os...

Mine is low and anterior, but apparently not so low as to worry them...

Also told low lying at 20 weeks. Was rescanned at 33 weeks(a week & half ago)and has moved nicely, exit all clear and am glad to still have all options open. Was told 9 out of 10 move by first scanner but lastest one said at least double that move. Fingers crossed for you. I know it seems like a long wait but try not to worry as nothing you can do except keep healthy and stress doesnt help. I found lots of people on here who had had bad experiences of it not moving so thought I would add my voice to the positive stories.
