I've had recurring chest infections all winter - five I think maybe even six and several courses of antibiotics. I think I've got another one and my obstetrician felt that if I did get another I really should have an x-ray. She says it's really not a problem for the baby but obviously I'm very concerned and would rather avoid it. I guess I need to be clear about what they're looking for and what they would do about it if they found it. Anyone with similar experiences?

TIA

i doubt very much that one chest x-ray will have any effect at all on your baby ,speak to the radiographer when you go for it though ,they will be up to date with current practise and research amd will be able to put your mind at rest

well what are they hoping to find? Chest x rays are very low relatively in radiation compared to others, and you can wear a lead shield over baby, but you should be clear on why they are doing it and how it will change any course of treatment. Why does the obstetrician want you to get an x ray?

Thanks for all your replies and sorry not to respond sooner - been in bed today sleeping it off.

Saw GP who said this one was only upper respiratory and she didn't think xray necessary. The obs was worried I'd aspirated something to cause all these infections but I think as I am recovering in between that I'm just having a bad weak chested time of it.

But good to hear it's prob ok if I do need to have one. Fingers crossed I can get through the pg without.
