I've been putting this down to not having enough iron, but it really is feeling very horrid when I'm just sitting in bed and I suddenly feel v breathless.

I'm 24 weeks

I had a problem with feeling breathless all the time when pregnant with DD1. The GP couldn't help. But after the birth, a different GP found I was low in Vitamin D and needed injections of it.
Not sure if that helps

Thanks for that retrodolly, I'll do some research on vit D deficiency.

Hi, I'm 30 weeks and I no exactly what you're going through. Its really scary and I get palpatations at the same time which frightens me to death !!

Have read somewhere that as all the organs are getting very squashed due to the baby it can cause breathlessness ?

HeinzSight · 21/04/2009 12:47

It's horrid isn't it WelshSuprise, I had terrible palpatations during my last pregnancy, but never have had the sitting down doing nothing breathlessness.

I think breathlessness at 24 weeks, while sitting doing nothing, warrants a visit to GP or midwife asap.

Do you have any other symptoms?

3littlefrogs · 21/04/2009 12:50

Organs are not really squashed at 24 weeks TBH.

Are you sure you don't mean vitamin B retrodolly?

HeinzSight · 21/04/2009 12:57

I was wondering whether it meant a trip to GP??

Only other symptoms are tiredness and slightly quicker than normal pulse.

I had this with Dd. I also had palpitations and weight loss...had hyperthyroidism. Go and see your GP. You too WelshSurprise.

SOLOisMeredithGrey · 21/04/2009 13:11

I meant that it turned out I had the thyroid prob. Yes to tiredness too.

just a quick update. I saw my consultant this morning and he said as I'm not habving any other symptoms it sounds like normal pregnancy breathlessness. He said it's probably due to progesterone levels. Apparently, progesterone stimulates you to breathe more, hence the feeling of breathlessness.

Good news then

Hello

I am 28 wks and really suffering from breathlessness when just sitting down. The doc was a bit concerned because it can be a sign of a blood clot, though there was no other signs of that eg swelling. We concluded it is probably due to the womb squishing my diaphram and lungs etc.

The doc suggested that low iron levels can also contribute to shortness of breath.

I find lying on bed, sitting down and walking about as well as doing small tasks can really shorten my breath. Stretching excercises seems to help as well as good posture and wearing dresses rather than jeans or skirts.
