Does/did anyone else not have ANY bump at 13 wks pg but is just fat?

This is my second pregnancy and I thought women started to show earlier with the second. But I've got nothing - except a lot of fat on my ass, hips and tummy. The lack of ANY pg signs makes me anxious that everything is alright, but maybe I'm just expecting too much too early? Has anyone experienced similiar?
Am worried everything is okay (particularly in the wake of 2 mcs) but having a scan so hopefully I will be reassured all okay.

until about 14 weeks the foetus is still inside your pelvis, so you shouldn't have a bump lol. i was just fat with all 3 until about 17 weeks...

MrsHappy · 21/04/2009 09:29

I'm 13 weeks too with my second and an absurd shape, but no obvious bump. I just look fat.

It's as though lots of my body fat has migrated to make a jelly belly and I can't be bothered holding it in anymore. It is not a bump though and I can't feel my uterus through the layers of lard...

Good luck with the scan - I'm sure it will be fine.

Me too - you don't say how many wks you are Gateau? Am 28 wks with #1. Fluid gain & painful boobs were the clues that made me do the test (oh and funny smelling wee). Was officially obese with BMI 32 at conception (although doesn't take into account large bone structure & big boobs). Just felt & looked fat until about 18 wks then suddenly bump arrived, boobs lost sore/swollenness, dh decided bump was sexy and I felt a whole lot better :-) Now of course hips & ribs are spreading, ankles & hands are puffy and def not feeling sexy, just tired & emotional! It sure is a roller-coaster ride of changes Hope your scan goes well.

"It's as though lots of my body fat has migrated to make a jelly belly and I can't be bothered holding it in anymore."
That made me laugh. But that sums it up VERY well; I always have had a jelly belly though. It's where most of my fat gathers

My ex-boss just looked like a water-butt all the way through - no appreciable bump, just really large and cylindrical all over right up until the end. But she was definitely pregnant!

MrsHappy · 21/04/2009 12:57

Gateau, I had a jelly belly for the last few years since I had my DD. But it has doubled in size in about a week which is odd given that I weigh a kilo less than I did when I conceived.

Water butt is a good description. I swear my ribs are spreading, but why? It's not like I have a bump that is pushing them out...

Gateau · 21/04/2009 13:03

I'm really glad I'm getting a scan tomorrow but cringe when they put the scanner (what's the right word??) on my belly and it starts to wobble

Ah but you will be lying down and your belly will be somewhere around your hips!

phdlife · 21/04/2009 13:28

ha gateau - I was "just getting fat" for 17 weeks! Then my bellybutton popped out, and at 18 weeks I sprouted a significant bump. Have fun with that

mamanicky · 21/04/2009 14:57

Lol phdlife! DH is desperate for my bellybutton to pop out - keeps squeezing it like a spot trying to get it to "go". Grosses me out

ten10 · 21/04/2009 15:10

I am 11 weeks and a couple of friends have said, 'ooh, you are already getting a bump"

but I know that it is not a bump just very wobbly fat, I have been eating like a pig since getting preggers, my appetite seems to have no off switch at the mo,
and the weight gain has all been on my tummy and muffin tops.
I think I have managed to pile on a stone since I found out I was pregnant

Gateau · 21/04/2009 15:29

ten10, I'm exactly the same; I'm a real little porky. Is this your first pregnancy? I was even worse first time round.
I had my lunch at work at 11.30 this morning and then was gutted I had nothing else left ! Scavenged around in my drawer in vain.

No its my second pregnancy,
and this is completely different to my first,
last time I went off food completely, I had no appetite at all and was sick 2/3 times a day, I actually lost weight in the first three months

but this time am ravenous and haven't been sick once,
am hoping it means I might be having a girl this time as I had a boy last time

Gateau · 21/04/2009 16:09

Could be, but don't bank on it. Different pgs don't always mean different sexes. Sorry!

I do hope you get what you wish for, though.

ten10 - you never know. I was not sick at all with DD, ate like a pig and especially wanted sweet food. Terrible heartburn from early on though.

This time I've felt really quite sick (no puking though) and lost half a stone in the firast 8 weeks. Now I don't feel too bad but keep eating grapefruits compulsively. I am convinced it is a boy. Will let you know in 6 weeks when I (hopefully) find out!

princessmel · 21/04/2009 18:13

I am 13 weeks with no 3 and have a def bump. (pic on profile)

I didn't show till 20 ish weeks with no 1.

staylucky · 21/04/2009 21:26

Hiya Gateau I'm 27 weeks and have only really just got to the stage where it's obvious i'm pregnant rather than just pie-happy.

You know when they say you buy maternity wear in your usual size? Yeah well that's apparently only for women who havent suddenly started eating like savages!?!

I've been eating Mars bars regularly....Lol, I catch a look at the glugose tag on the back and tell myself it's a good source of energy :O

I'm very envious of those ladies who have neat little football bumps under their jumpers x
