Hello, I'm 6 weeks pregnant with my first baby and feeling fine apart from not sleeping well. I seem to have lost the ability to regulate my body temp & am waking up soaked in sweat every hour or so, I'm also having really vivid dreams. Has this happened to anyone else? How long will it last cause I'm knackered!

I had the sweating too.

I don't know how long it will last, but I think it's fairly normal.

Congratulations!

Jic · 21/04/2009 07:03

I'm not sure about the sweating, but I can definitely relate to the vivid dreams! They lasted the whole pregnancy for me. I hope the sweating improves for you, and congrats btw!

pippylongstockings · 21/04/2009 07:08

Gosh you have reminded me I had the dreams - I think it is your body and mind trying to process what is happening to you, ie the biggest thing you can do, scary/happy huge range of emotions to deal with.

Or mother natures way of preparing you for the sleepless nights yet to come!

Joolsiam · 21/04/2009 07:22

Hi Pippy - I have the vivid dreams too and get very very hot at night. I also wake up in the early hours - wide awake and can't get back to sleep and remember the same with my last pregnancy. Can't remember how long it lasts I'm afraid.

I'm just over 5 weeks. A bunch of us due in December are getting together on an antenatal thread. The thread is quiet at the moment but I'm sure it will pick up once nervous peeps like me have seen a heartbeat and feel a bit less worried about another MC

I have the same thing - not sure why - just not really sleeping well (sometimes overheating and sometimes need the loo. Sore boobs also sometimes wake me up!) Getting used to it now actually. I am also finding that at the weekends I can't lie-in as much as I used to ie until 10/11am, I seem to be wide awake by 9am latest - perhaps natures way of preparing me for what is to come!

Ravgirl · 21/04/2009 17:44

Thank you all for your replies - at least I don't feel too abnormal now! I am slightly concerned by how many of you replied before 7.30am....hhmmm looks like I'm in for a shock, I used to like a lie-in

Hi - I'm twenty four weeks pregnant, and haven't had a proper night's sleep since November. It's shit. Hope your insomnia passes...

dinkystinky · 21/04/2009 20:14

Ravgirl - make the most of your lie-ins while you can. Its all hormonal and normal - your body is undergoing lots of changes causing teh sweats and insomnia. Having a fan on in your room may help cool you down. Also try meditation music - if you cant sleep at least you can rest your mind. It should hopefully pass by the end of the first trimester (did for me anyway)...

Joolsiam · 21/04/2009 20:52

hehe - I'm a first timer (second pregnancy though) but the insomnia just means I get up, start work early and enjoy late afternoon in the garden

Ravgirl · 21/04/2009 22:46

dinkystinky - thanks for the tip about the fan & the music, will try it tonight as I did find last night I was just staring at the walls wondering whether to get up or try to get back to sleep.

My partner is away at the moment which is just as well cause otherwise I think I'd be driving him mad - good to know that it's all normal & should wear off in the end....to be replaced with another set of pregnancy 'symptoms' no doubt!!

hi Ravgirl and congratulations

I have night sweats and vivid odd bizaree dreams all part of it.

I have 6 weeks to go and have always had insomnia, try eating a piece of toast before you go to bed and sleep with your feet sticking out of the duvet at the bottom, also I find a hot water bottle with cold tap water in it a refreshing teddy bear if I get too hot.

I mention the toast because I wake up all the time and found that actually getting up and having a cold drink and a piece of toast sends me off again. I am in the later stages now so my body may be getting a bit hungry, but I did this in the first 3 months too and it helped.

Good luck.

Ravgirl · 24/04/2009 19:12

billysitch - thank you for the tips. Amazingly I slept ok last night for the first time for a week but I changed the duvet for a sheet & blanket so I could control the temperature a bit better.

Everyone on here has been so kind & helpful, really glad I found mn!

Good luck with the next 6 weeks!
