33 weeks pg today and this morning had the worst constipation of my life, an hour and a half and in total agony barely managed to go. I went back to bed trying to sleep (not easy as had just had my first inkling of what labour is like) then needed to dash to the loo and had a kinda loose motion and went more than my entire pg in one go.
Bit worried as have been feeling unwell all day (just feel like a tummy bug without the d and V)
Can you have ibs when pg and if so what can I do to stop this as still working full time and cannot bear being at work loo with this!

Arh poor you. Your body might just be having a clear out or you could just have a bug.

I have IBS and it's when your bowl goes into spasm and can be very painful. The only thing you can do is to try and figure out which foods are causing it and that is very lenghty.

Drink LOTS of water and that will help with constipation/stomach bug/IBS.

I had really bad tmmyy ache a few times so bad that it reminded me of contractions, I kep trying to go and couldn't then all of a sudden had to do the dash and it was like water. The other night I woke up with tummy ache and had to run to the loo and again like water. I'm 28 wks PG BTW.

I dount there is any medication you can take while PG.

Hope you feel better soon

It could be a bug,it could be a clear out but it can also be a sign of imminent labour so keep an eye out for any other symptoms although you've obviously got a while to go yet (dates wise)

Drink plenty and just see how you are in the morning. I'd take the day off if you still feel rough not least because you don't want to infect the entire workplace with D&V.

I too have IBS and it always gets worse during pregnancy for me. It's so painful and yes very similar to labour pains, in fact when overdue with DS1 I thought I was having yet another bout of IBS spasms but it wasn't until my DH pointed out the obvious 'could you be in labour' that I realised what was going on!!

You have my sympathy x

Sympathy from me too. It made me smile when you said about having an inkling of what labour might be like - a couple of weeks ago I had the most excruciatingly painful post-constipation jobbie imaginable. It hurt so much I considered 'sucking it back in' but in the end bit the bullet. I actually had beads of cold sweat on my forehead...

Jeezis - if that's what I'm like having a number two, I'm going to be crap at labour.
(no pun intended)

McSnail, sounds like you're getting lots of practise in, by the time the 'big day' arrives it'll just feel like a big fart

McSnail · 20/04/2009 11:56

Oo, that would be nice.
