Lindo Wing - Advice about consultants with twin pregnancy

Hi there

I am 27 weeks pregnant with identical twins. I am currently being seen by Lorin Lakasing on the NHS and am extremely impressed and happy with her but I have private health insurance that covers me in the Lindo Wing. Unfortunately I have been told that Ms Lakasing will not deliver identical twins in Lindo because they are high risk but other consultants, like Mr Teoh will.

I have been seen by Lorin since week 16 so I would prefer her but i was wondering if there was anyone out there who has managed a twin pregnancy in the Lindo ward (by planned c-section)and whether you could recommend any particular consultants?

Thanks a lot

Hi there,

I just tried to book with Mr Murphy (only because my sister had her 2 kids with him), but he couldn't take me because he's away over Christmas and my EDD is 16th December. His secretary also told me that neither he nor Mr Lakasing take twins. I asked who did, and was told Mr Teoh, who is a specialist in high-risk pregnancies.

I have now booked with Mr Teoh, although I don't know yet if I have twins (find out Monday). I booked him because he is one of the big hitters, he's not on holidays over Christmas (I'm due 16th December), I'm 41 and on heparin, so probably a good idea for me to have someone who specialises in high-risk cases!

If having twins, I would go straight to him. If he's booked out, his secretary should be able to tell you who else takes on twins.

BTW - what private health insurance do you have that covers you in the Lindo Wing? Mine only covers emergencies in pregnancy, not a normal birth.

Hi - thanks so much for responding...feels great to get someone else's input.

I basically heard the same thing as you when I called. I am told Mr Teoh is v.good but I have been with Dr Lakasing since the start so I am thinking of staying on the NHS with her and then trying to transfer into Lindo post-pregnancy but not sure if I can do that.

My health insurance is the same - covers emergencies but general pregnancy is excluded. The insurer said that c-section is included and they basically pay for everything in the Lindo ward...

Are you already covered? My insurer said that they need a medical report confirming that there are medical reasons required for c-section and then I am covered. I need to check if it covers all scans before the c-section etc or just the operation and after care...

I am due in June so will let you know how it goes...
