spotting at 12 weeks - anyone had similar?

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and had a scan on Tuesday (11+4) for which we paid to go private as I couldn't even get through to the right person at my hopital to find out what had happened to my 12 week scan appointment (answer today - it's at 14 weeks +!).

Anyway, baby looked fine with strong heartbeat BUT this morning had small amount of blood on wiping - and again a couple more times. It's not happening every time I go to the toilet. It's not red, and there is really hardly anything so probably in a panic over nothing but....

EPU were not very helpful, referring me to a gynae emergency service which you have to go via gp or a&e, so went to gp anyway who thinks at 39 I'm just more likely to get the odd bit of spotting that in my previous pregnancies 5 and 6 years ago. Does anyone have similar experiences? Have no pain, sickness has got worse over last few days, and I know small bleeds are very common but has come as a shock after good news from scan. I had a miscarriage last year but it was earlier and nothing like this.

Thanks

Hi alana. Almost the same happened to me when I was pg with dd. I started spotting about 3 days after my 12 week scan. It did actually get worse and carried on (on and off) until about 17 weeks

Everything was fine and they never could tell me the reason for the bleeds but my GP did send me for a reassurance scan a couple of days after it started.

Fingers crossed everything is ok - I remember how worrying it was.

Hi Alana,
I was the same as well. I started spotting at around 12-13 weeks and it was almost daily but not a lot. I was worried and went to the GP who referred me to the Day Unit but everything checked out okay...I continued with sporadic bleeding till about 16-17 weeks and then it just stopped...doctors havent been able to explain the bleeding...they have said it could be hormonal...
I would continue to monitor it and go and see the doctor regularly about it. They basically told me to only worry if the blood came with pain in the stomach or if there was a lot of blood (like with a period)...if not, then it was more likely to be hormonal changes...

Good luck

Alana39 Me too today! I was at work & went to loo to find slight spotting. I am 11+3 today (hopefully) & spoke to my GP on phone who tried to get me into EPU but they are busy until Friday!!! Hello...desperate lady here trying to establish if her baby is ok. So GP advised me to walk into A&E which I did & I now have an appnt for tomorrow at 09:20 (better than Friday). I'm hoping all is ok & that I am just in a panic for nothing, but having had a mc last Nov it doesn't help with my nerves.
So I entirley feel for you also & hope you get an appnt v.soon. Have you tried going to A&E for a quicker one? I did have to travel to another hospital but I don't mind at all. Just hope for good news tomorrow now

Thanks for replies. Hopeful, hope your scan went well today - I carried on spotting for 4 days but nothing today so far so unless things change will sit tight for planned scan next Tuesday and hope it was just hormonal or something.

Thanks for thinking of me Alana39 & it was good news. Little v.active baby on scan with good strong hb. Confirmed 11+3 pg today. So the next step is midwife on Thursday. I was so excited & I cried
I hope everything is good for you next Tuesday. I'll be thinking of you. I don't know whether to still go for the 12 week scan next Tuesday! I spose it doesn't hurt, plus my mum could come next time as my partner came this time...
Going to continue to rest for the rest of the day & might go back to work tomorrow or Thursday monring for a few hrs prior to midwife

So pleased to hear your news - I didn't want to scare you and post on here about my spotting at 11+3 in Nov because that did end in a very sudden and natural MC at 11+5, but was watching to see how you got on.

I hope you can relax and enjoy it now

Hopeful2 · 21/04/2009 17:18

Joolsiam That's ok. I know as my last pg ended that way last year (Nov). I can relax now & will start to enjoy the pg. Still going for the scan next Tuesday & taking my mum this time.
Thanks for thinking of me. Keep you posted on progress.
Lets keep everything crossed for Alana39 now for next Tuesday...
