How far along are you?

I had an annoyingly snotty/congested nose and post-nasal drip up till around 16 weeks I think. It triggered my vomiting a lot of the time--very irritating.

Never came up with any remedies, just blew my nose and spit a lot (but in a tissue or toilet, not on the street!)

This takes me back! - I had some nasal congestion in pg which didn't totally clear till after the birth. Hope you are luckier!

Remedies, erm, steam? olbas oil? otrivine (not sure about in pg)?

YanknCock · 17/04/2009 13:55

Think they advise against using nasal sprays here, but I did it anyway when I got desperate. Figured that was better than oral decongestants like Sudafed, which are a definite no-no.

Olbas oil helped for about five seconds.

I had this with DS1 from about 20 weeks till he was about 3 months old. Nothing helped. Pregnant again and no sign of it this time round. Sorry no advice - just wanted to say you have my sympathies - it's awful not being able to breathe, eat, drink, sleep etc.

Hormones and increased blood volume will often cause nasal congestion and/or nose bleeds. Saline nasal sprays may help....as can going out into the cold air, or hanging out in a steamy bathroom. You can use a humidifier or vaporiser as well. Just keep them very clean.

It may go away completely at some point, or you may have it off and on throughout. Hope you can find some relief....

I'm 24 weeks prenant and I have this too. I have to keep clearing my throat too which is driving my DH mad.

Gillyan · 18/04/2009 01:12

I'm 28 wks and it's been driving me mad for about 10 weeks, It makes me sick every morning and I keep getting ear infection. My head is basically full of fluid and there si no de-congestant we can have when PG. I have got into the habit of blowing my nose a lot before bed and as soon as I wake up to try and clear some. Also been leaving the shower on and letting the bathroom steam up which helps a bit. Role on no more PG and some vicks!

Gillyan · 18/04/2009 01:13

And...I have hayfever and sometimes get sinus infections but this is defo PG related.

spats · 18/04/2009 14:41

I have a constant blocked nose. i am 18 weeks and have had it from near enough the start. Had actually forgotten that i had this with DS#2 andn when it started this time i thought it was a cold but then it didn't clear up and then it jolted my memory of having this with DS#2. Lukcily its not bloody or running just, to be frank, full of bogies had it till delivery last time, but not giving me any hassle , except breathing heavy at night which is DH problem not mine

You could use a neti pot. Look at yogamad.com

Sorry Mama, nasal congestion was one of my first PG symptoms and hasn't eased at all - I'm now coming up for 33 weeks... It's actually triggered tinnitus type effect in my ears please with the sound of my heartbeat in my ears, especially when I go up and downstairs.

I hope that you don't get it for as long as me - at least I have the end in sight now...

Hi mama, I'm 28 wks and have had it since the start really. Has led to snoring which dh thinks is v funny. As my midwife so delicately put it "you're producing lots more mucous and your body doesn't know the difference between your nose and your vagina"!! My immediate response was that I'm glad dh knows the difference . I've had two nasty colds over winter and have used Vicks nasal stick thingy and chest rub to good effect during these - better than oral Benylin etc. Other than that, just lots of nose blowing, throat clearing and trying not to sniff. Swimming & walking both seem to help too.
