Loss of fluid ( amniotic fluid?) and Urinary tract Infection

I am 29 weeks today and was kept in hospital for one day to monitor, as I had a gush of water loss ( only about a teacup full approx). They aren't sure if this was urine or not - I have a urinary tact infection.
Anyway they gave me a steroid injection in case I went into labour . I was calm in hospital but am really worried now and feel I need to start getting everything ready , can't sleep . Has anyone had a similar experience and does having a U.T.I carry any risks for the baby??

A very similar thing happened to me at 31 weeks in my last pregnancy but I lost more fluid. I can understand how worried you are. I don't know if I should tell you but I had my dd 2 days later but she was fine. She had to spend 6 weeks in SCBU but no problems now, you would never know she was prem. I know how worrying it is though, you are are in a state of shock. If they have sent you home it probably means they aren't convinced you are in labour, they kept me in. Have you had any contractions?

At this stage an UTI is not normally as serious as it would be in early pregnancy. With an UTI there is often a raised temperature which is thought to be a risk factor of miscarriage and obviously the antibiotics need to be chosen carefully in pregnancy. I suggest you try to make sure that if you develop a temperature you try and keep it down, maybe take paracetamol to help with this if you can't do it naturally and drink plenty of fluids. You might like to drink cranberry juice as this is a good natural remedy. I am sure the midwive will keep a close eye on you now this is happened so please try not to worry to much.

I don't know anything about UTI but as regards loosing AF...
well either it starts off your labour.... and that usually happens within 1 to 3 days OR
the leak will not happen again, your body makes AF up to 6 times a day... so your baby won't be in a dry pouch!

Let us know what happens !

Thanks for your replies,
Rach 13 - I had mild back pain which I've got again but it is really mild and I think I am getting a bit paranoid .
I also feel a bit better because of the time scale . As in it was 4 days ago and I haven't lost any since. With my d/d she had i.u.g.r and I was induced at 36 wks and I remember them saying there wasn't as much a.f as there should be . It does make me a lot more woried going into this last trimester. Anyway thanks a lot for your responses it has helped me feel a bit more positive
