Would it annoy you if someone asked how far gone you were and then said gosh that's a small/big bump for that many months?

no it wouldn't annoy me. It's just something people say for conversation when you are pregnant.

RE annoyance factor - really depends what is said, by whom, in what manner and how sensitive you are feeling at the time...

no it doesnt anny me when i am pregnant when ppl ask what annoys me is when i am not pregnant but ppl assume i am thats a charmer

No, it doesn't annoy me (though I am going to get huge).

IME it's the same when the baby comes out.
Everyone had an opinion on how very big or small my DD was, when in fact she was bang on average.

It annoyed me once that's because I was only about 28 weeks at the time and the woman who said i looked like i was about to drop looked as if she was about 25 stone herself! Since then though I've decided that people will make these comments regardless and I just let them go over my head.

sophie a few weeks ago id have gone into a massive rant about how much it pisses me off and how rude people are and im not public property, but after a day out shopping with my mum last week and getting annoyed over EVERYTHING she gave me a lecture about hormones and said id give myself a heart attack before this baby's born if i didnt chill out a bit haha =p

so now ive realised ive not somehow turned into worlds biggest bitch im just heavily pregnant and fed up

Sophie Saying you look like you're about to drop is a bit different to just saying oh that's quite a big bump though isn't it? Or perhaps it's not, I dunno?

Lauren did they say you were big or small?

I was always being told how small my bump was, 4th pregnancy a lot of people didn't realise I was expecting until I got to about 8 months along.

The comments never bothered me. Why should they?
Being told you're big as a house must be much worse, because it's implied that you've become fat and won't ever be anything else again.

saying i didnt even look pregnant til about 7months now ive been "HUGE" for the last few week lol! i didnt get a 'proper' bump for ages it suddenly appeared, but people saying "ooh you cant even tell, your tiny!" i was like sorry i dont look pregnant enough for you!! now when i see people i havent seen for a while its "godd your massive since last time i saw you" thanks i feel great about looking like a beached whale

like i said though im just being overly touchy about it cos im fed up i accept that !

Yes because it's my first and I'm already worried that I'm bigger/smaller than I should be, without other people giving opinions that my bump is a different size to what it ought to be, just to add to my anxiety. It's perfectly possible to make a pleasant comment about a bump without implying that it should be a different size to what it is. (how about simply "What a wonderful bump you've got"?)

Actually I don't mind people saying that I'm huge compared to last time they saw me coz that's fair enough - perfectly true! But that wasn't the question you asked - your question was about people commenting about being big/small for the number of months, which is annoying because, what, are they experts in the correct size you should be?

I agree w Ceebie, I don't welcome the opinions on whether I am bigger or smaller than I should be, or than someone else they knew. I am also getting sick of being stared at.

bunnymother what if it was just a comment of "oh that's quite a big/small bump" rather than saying you're bigger than what you should be for xx weeks?

yes - it does annoy me and have had lots of people tell me how big I am this pregnancy (I have measured just right all the way through).

I am highly irritable at the moment though - am going to scream at the next person who says 'ooh not long to go now then'!

It wouldn't annoy me personally but I would think they were a tad rude. How are they to know what type of complications etc you could possibly have?

But surely people are just trying to make conversation, join in your experience, when they remark on bump size? If you're sensitive about bump comments just WAIT until the sprog is out & you discover how opinionated people are about all your parenting decisions.

It doesn't annoy me particularly, but does get a tad boring when the umpteenth person (especially the v. annoying woman at work) says 'ooh you're getting bigger!' Well yes, obviously. And yes, I am big considering I still have 5 weeks left at work but no doubt I'll waddle on regardless.

Now, MIL referring to me being too 'fat' to do something or other that I can't now remember at the weekend...that's a different story. I could have cheerfully thumped her. But I could cheerfully thump my MIL most days
