Has anyone had spotting in early pregnancy and still scans are normal?

Hi there everyone I am new to this and sit constantly on the the internet trying to make sense of what my daughter is going through. She has had 4 previous miscarriages and is 9 weeks 1 day. From week 4 she has had spotting on and off with two clots around 6 weeks. She has had weekly scans showing all is normal. I cant understand why this is happening and the Dr is not very helpful at all. I would go through this 20 times for her to save the heartbreak. She spends everyday with me and most of the time is in the toilet checking for loss. This is so hard is there anything positive anyone can add. I appreciate any response. Thanks for reading.

hi catchya, I have had spotting with all my pregnacies, my first one I lost a couple of clots, but ds was born fine, I then went on to have 2 miscarriages last year. I am now 20 weeks pregnant and have had spotting from weeks 5 to 9, thankfully it has all stopped now, but it doesn't stop me checking at every toilet visit though! The doctors can't tell us anything because they don't have any answers, which is very hard to understand, I know. I wish your duaghter lots of luck and hope everything is ok xx

Thankyou and also good luck to you I hope everything works out. Its not so much the Dr cant explain its the whole total lack of concern he has for the questions we have. It is so frustrating waiting from week to week. I think we all need sedation just watching her go through this is difficult. With her previous miscarriages she didnt get quite as far so i see this as a positve sign and she didnt have implantation bleeding either. The clots are concerning. I am really worried about her emotional state and would like to mention this to the Dr but its very hard to over step the mark (worried mother) syndrome. Cheers

Is she now having investigations into her miscarriages, because after 3 consecutive mc's they are supposed to look into it?

catchya · 10/04/2009 13:37

Yes she has had extensive tests all inconclusive. The last visit the Dr told her its the way she rolls the dice. It takes me all my strength not to say anything to him. I feel he is very insensitive but I guess I am just angry there are no answers for her and we just have to wait. A week is a long time for us but for her an hour is a nightmare. She will not rest until she is nursing a baby in her arms I'm afraid.
Cheers

I had bleeding from 4 to 11 weeks if that is any help. Scans normal, no reason ever found for it.

In the pregnancies where she had miscarriages did she get this far?

catchya · 10/04/2009 14:14

Hi brettgirl and thanks for the reply. No she has never got to 9 weeks with a viable pregnancy 8 has been the furtherest. Only one at 12 weeks where the scan showed the fetus had stopped growing at 7 1/2. Thankyou

In that case - I had a scan at 8 weeks and the day after saw a programme on the telly with a consultant obstetrician who said that if you have a positive scan result at 8 weeks there is a 97% chance of everything being fine. That is surely pretty reassuring? I also came round to the way of thinking in the end that if I was going to mc then I would have by that point. It was pretty scary though, even without the history of miscarriage.

brettgirl2 · 10/04/2009 14:20

It also must be positive if she has got further than ever before?

Yes I think that is the only thing that keeps her going at the moment. Will wait as what else can we do? The reserch I have done and beleive me its plenty lol shows after 8 weeks statistics are 78% higher so lets hope. Cheers
