8+3 wks pg.
This morning woke to some blood tinted discharge and a bit of cramping. Very similar to the beginning of a period, and I now have a dull ache at the base of my belly. Did also have some quite intense stomach flutters earlier, not painful.

Its ok isn't it? I am quietly panicking here.

Should I call out of ours Dr? Or not bother? If it is something, can't do anything about it can I? and if it is nothing, I am just panicking for nothing. I said to DH I just needed reassurance that its all ok, and he said, rightly that they cant really give me that over the phone as they won't know either.

Should I stay in bed? Go out as planned? Come on, tell me to get myself together here!

I would call your GP or an EPU. At 8 weeks a scan will tell you something.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 10/04/2009 10:08

gp not open on good friday, and no no. for epu, referrals through gp only .

I should phone out of hours gp shouldn't i?

Get your doctor to send you to your local Early Pregnancy Clinic. With any bleeding they should give you an early scan to see how things are progressing.
I bled for a couple of weeks (4&5) and the EPAC I went to were great. They even saw me on a Saturday (I first went to my doctor on a Friday evening). They gave me a scan straight away and took bloods. I then had follow on blood tests and a further two scans.
I can't reassure you that every thing will be fine because I'm not medically trained but for your own well being and peace of mind speak to your doctor ASAP.
I do hope things work out for the best x

Sorry late in posting my message. Yes phone out of hours!

Early pregnancy is so worrying
A scan is what you need
Fingers crossed
So either phone OOH to speak to the Dr so they can speak to gynae oncall/epu, as it's the Easter weekedn they may not be running a normal service which will be difficult for you.
What about a private scan?? Probably £150 or so although again same problems of actually getting a scan today or tomorrow

PlumBumMum · 10/04/2009 10:20

I would just ring your maternity unit tell them you are really worried and your doctors is closed

Ninjacat · 10/04/2009 10:25

If you can't get hold of anyone then go to A&E if you are worried.

Hey thanks for replying everyone.

I just spoke to out of hours GP, who said there is not much that can be done at this stage as EPU is closed. He said his concern would be if pain increases on one side along with bleeding as this could mean ectopic. He said this type of bleeding is also common at this stage of pg and not necessarily a concern. He said, rest and this can help, and goo to see my gp on tues who will book a scan for that week with epu. If pain on one side then call him back.

Pretty much as I expected !

With a chance of ectopic the Dr at EPAC told me to be aware of "Shoulder Tip Pain" as well. She did also say though that ectopics are rare and normal pgs are common. Good Luck x

pavlovthepregnantcat · 10/04/2009 11:05

Thanks Ninja - I had an ectopic scare a few weeks ago, perhaps he saw the record from then...I am not concerned about that as my symptoms are not in any way like ectopic. I will keep an eye out of course, but pain is more period like, spread across base of stomach, with some back pain. I think it was the back pain that might have raised his alertness?

Anyway, I am going to get some chocolate eggs if the shops are open as we have not bought any yet and I quite fancy a lindt egg to cheer myself up!

Thanks for all your support.
