Hi,

I have signed up today as i think you have a brilliant chat room that everyone can come with problems and concerns and get advice and support.

I have just found out i am pregnant for the first time on Friday. My partner and i are over the moon. I am 5 weeks pregnant. Only thing is i am suffering from awful lower back and side pain and occasional stomache cramps and pains.

I dont know if my mind is working over time with all the books and magazines i have been reading but it is really worrying me. I just dont want there to be anything wrong. Any advice.

Please, i am desparate for an honest opinion.

Hi clairypops - good name, my friends call me that sometimes so I like it!

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and welcome to many years of worry . Seriously though, there are so many changes happening right now, it is totally normal to have random cramps and pains - I remember yelping as I stood up sometimes it hurt so much, its just your body developing and stretching and all the hormones stampeding around. It's quite amazing what your body will do and how it will change to make this pregnancy work and grow a baby.

But that's not going to stop you worrying, its only natural, all you can do is try not to dwell on things too much and hope the next few weeks work out OK until you get to the 'safe' (safer) point of 12 weeks. Obviously if you have any bleeding etc, or really serious pain, you should go and see your GP, but if it's not too bad then try not to worry and enjoy this time before all the sickness etc kicks in .

PS welcome to mumsnet (aka the destroyer of all free time)

Thanks for posting that Clairypops - I'm at about the same stage as you. I had been wondering exactly the same things as I constantly feel like my period is going to come on and I have terrible stabbing pains when I stand up/ cough etc and at random intervals!!

Nice to know it's fairly normal

Thanks to you both for putting my mind at rest. I really appreciate it.

Im just so excited and cant wait but i have a long time to go yet. GOing on holiday in June, will have had my scan by then though, so some relaxing time me thinks. I just want to get to that safe point now!!! ha ha! Its such a long time to wait for a scan to confirm what you want to hear.

Hope you are both doing well with your pregnancies and thanks so much again. Going to have a nice bubble bath, get the jammies on and watch a film in bed.

Goodnight Mummies and babies x x
