Hi,
Dh and I are TTC no.2 and amoungst my many othe second time round concerns I am pretty worried that this baby will be bigger than our fisrt - DS was 9lbs 1 and I got 2nd degree tears because he got stuck!!

Are second babies always bigger?

Also - am I likely to out on the same amount of weight in pg? DS is 9 monts and keeping me pretty busy so am hoping not to put on as much as last time (3 stone although I did start off on the border of underweight).

My DC2 was slightly lighter than DC1 (DD1 8lbs5, DD2 8lbs3).
DC3 however was a different story - 9lbs4! However, he was a boy - I'm told they're on average around 5lbs bigger! Perhaps if you have a DD she'll be smaller

My first was 7lbs., 1oz.

My second was 6lbs., 9oz.

My third was 9lbs., 5oz!

Ds2 was smaller than ds1. Ds3 was the biggest but only by 4oz.

Must be something about 3rd babies and hugeness expat
I think I put on less weight with DCs 2 and 3 than DC1 - and certainly lost it quicker afterwards. It wasn't as much of an issue for me though - the last thing you have time to worry about with three Dcs!

My second baby was over a pound smaller - 7lb 9oz as opposed to 8lb 12oz. Both were boys but DS2 came four days early and DS1 was 3 weeks late. Interestingly, DS2 weighed exactly the same at the 3 week point so maybe DS1 would have weighed the same if he had been born nearer his due date.

my first baby at 12 days late - 9lb 1oz
my seconds baby at 9 days late - 9lb 3.5oz

I was a week late with DS, don't know that this would have made a huge difference!

Looks like I will need to stop at two if I am going to avoid a big weight jump!

I am one of four, my older brother was 6lbs 6, I was 7lbs 2 and my 'little' sis was 8lbs 10 and my youngest brother was 7lbs 7.

Wonder what is is with 3rd babies?

DD1 8lb 11oz small tear because wasn't given guidance on panting at the vital moment.

DD2 8lb 8oz no tearing as had a great midwife.

Put on less weight with DD2 as had a toddler to run around after. With DD1 I went to the gym and swam every day until a week before giving birth and ate healthy foods. With DD2 rarely did any excersise and ate my body weight in cake every day.

Two weeks after having DD2 and I've slimmed down considerably, haven't tried on normal clothes yet as maternity jeans are just so comfy! but I think I'd be able to get back into them if I bothered.

oxocube · 09/04/2009 16:41

dc1 8lb 4 oz
dc2 6lb 2 oz
dc3 7lb 9oz

oxocube · 09/04/2009 16:43

oh just checked a metric converter and dd was 6lb not 6lb

bohemianbint · 09/04/2009 16:47

number 2 was a fair bit bigger, but oddly, easier to get out. If that cheers you up?

andlipsticktoo · 09/04/2009 16:56

ds1 was 9lb 9 and had long labour and 2nd degree tear, born in hospital.
ds2 was 8ob 12 and only 45 min speedy labour and small tear (born in the bath at home!)
ds3 was 10lb 0.5 oz and fairly short labour (7 hrs), small tear, born at home.

The first delivery was definitely the worst and took the longest to recover from, the second was easily the easiest!
