Health in Maternity Grant & early babies

Just found out something so annoying today.... if your baby arrives before your midwife has filled out the Health in Maternity claim form, you're automatically denied!!! And my MW hasn't even got the forms in! (bangs head against wall)

REALLY?
can this be right?
where did you hear it? Somewhere official (not MW)?

I thought it was your due date, not when the baby arrives?

It's due date. That's what it says on the info - you don't qualify though if you have a 24 week premmie, which seems rather harsh to me.

I called the Helpline, to see if I could get a claim form as MW keeps saying they haven't arrived at the surgery yet.

And they said it was the health in MATERNITY grant and wouldn't apply if my baby arrived before I sent in the form. Which makes sense but they're not paying any until May anyways....so lots of women will have given birth before they get their grant money.

That isn't what it says on the leaflet given to me by MW. I'm due in a week so mine is definitely a health 'after birth' grant.

It's been an absolute balls up with these forms, I can't believe that some MWs still don't have them - I mean they apply to due dates from Monday
