I had my early scan the other day, and during the transabdominal scan the sonographer found the pregnancy sac in my womb with what she described as 'two clear objects' in it- one at the top, one at the bottom, both the same size. However, she couldn't see a heartbeat.

So, she used the TV scanner and found the baby with a heartbeat straight away.

However, she didn't mention, nor did I remember to ask what the other 'object' in the sac was. Does anybody have any ideas? Obviously one was the baby, what's the other thing?

Thanks Stretch,

Hmm, so have a I understood correctly from my scan- what I saw could be a fetal pole and a seperate embryo?

Think I shall be asking for an explanation when I have my next scan!

The fetal pole is the embryo/fetus. Did you have a vaginal scan after?
If so then the first scan picked up 2 objects, fetal pole and egg sac, which disappears at around 7 weeks (IRRC??) Then did the vaginal scan which is much clearer earlier on and detected a heartbeat in the fetal pole/embryo.

I had the same couple of years ago, but unfortunately no hb.

Are you only about 6 weeks? If there was 2 embryos, then she would have said.

this may help

It's a yolk sac, next to the fetal pole.
