What happens in a midwife booking appt?

Because I missed mine today at 7wks and can't get another one until 23rd April. Midwife spoke to DH about nuchal scan, and said I needed this by 10wks if I was going to have it. She wants me to call her tomorrow AM.

Can she book scan etc before my next appt? My second baby, I don't remember there being anything other than scan that needs done urgently?

The GP should have booked your dating scan for 12 weeks.
The only other thing that needs to be done before 12 weeks is sicle cell and thalasaemia screening.

She booked the scan and took details and that was it.

And I was told the NUchal scan had to be done by 13 weeks.

Disaster - oh the gp does it does he? I thought midwife did it. I shall chase that tomorrow with her when I talk to her.

Sickle cell and thalasaemia, are they static results? I had bloods taken last time and there was no problem.

Only other thing I could think of was blood type. But that can wait, I am rh- but so is DD so thats not urgent is it?

Oh, maybe she said 10 weeks because that is their aim to avoid it being missed?

Gp did not mention scan, he just said make an appt to catch up with midwife with reception.

So, nothing that cannot wait until 23rd April then...phew.

I may be wrong but I thought a nuchal scan is ideally done after 11 and before 14 weeks. I think it would be very hard to do before 10 weeks.

I am 11 weeks and my booking with the hospital midwives is tomorrow, so apparently nothing needs to be done before then (this is consistent with my last pg too).

blood type usually at 16 weeks, along with Hb, hepatitis, HIV, Rubella and triple if you want it.
perhaps scan requests vary from area to area.

thanks Mrshappy - I think, if it was my first and I did not know what to expect, I would be more keen to go, but its very early for everything, and I know how long I have to go still, for scans, everything!

I know what you mean. I ended up going to the GP at only about 6 weeks to book the hospital as I was off on holiday afterwards and didn't want to put that off. Did feel kind of previous going there so early...
