Well how on earth she maanged to confirm over the phone you had miscarried is beyond me, you sound like you might well be so don't give up hope. Not impressed with your wait to find out tho, can you not get another internal scan?

mumnosbest · 01/04/2009 17:34

I had several bleeds during 3rd pg but my dd is 19 months, fine and sitting on my kne now so not all bleeding is bad. I'd be having words with your midwife, how can they know or tell you over the phone, that's terrible. Can't your midwife refer you to an early pregnancy unit for a scan?
Hope all works out, fingers crossed for you?

Hi Emma, it is absolutely ridiculous that they thought they could confirm a miscarriage over the phone - somebody messed up very badly there.

Also I would have thought that they could arrange a scan for you - when I had a small bleed my GP immediately arranged a scan at the EPAU for me (everything was fine).

Unfortunately I had a miscarriage last October at 6 and a half weeks. I know miscarriage can be very different for different people, but I can tell you that when I miscarried I knew for definite. Without wishing to give you TMI, I had bleeding getting constantly worse and cramping, went home then suddenly it was like a balloon had burst between my legs, literally a big whoosh (a bit like what I imagine waters breaking might be like), after that I was in the bath for hours before the bleeding (and large clots) had slowed down enough for me to leave the bathroom. (Sorry I know that's TMI)

Even still my GP organised a scan for me the next day to confirm the miscarriage. So even if you were sure that you had miscarried, they should STILL be arranging a scan for you.

It sounds to me that it's VERY far from certain that you have miscarried - there is every chance that it could all be fine - so hang in there.

Unfortunately though I'm not sure that the pregnancy test will necessarily help - although obviously it's a good sign if it's positive. However after my miscarriage it took over a week for a pregnancy test to come back negative. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on that point.

Best of luck and thinking of you. That hospital definitely has some questions to answer though in the way that they have treated you.

Hi kiwi, did you have your bloods done today or is that not until tomorrow? Have you been offered a scan, I think if i was you I would be phoning up and insisting on one (unless it's too early to see anything on a scan?).

Thinking of you and hope you're ok.

YesSirICanBoogie · 02/04/2009 16:48

The hospital has been so irresponsible! There could be a number of reasons for bleeding and they should be checking you out ASAP. Good luck! I hope everything's okay.

kiwi, so very sorry to hear your sad news. It must be a horrendous time for you, make sure that you get plenty of support from friends and family and take plenty of time off work to let both your body and mind recuperate from such an ordeal. You'll get plenty of support on here too if you need it. Take care of yourself.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 06/04/2009 13:27

kiwi, so sorry to hear your news but glad it was found in time. Have you heard of the ectopic pregnancy trust? there's some really good info there and also a friendly message board. Thinking of you.

MmeLindt · 06/04/2009 13:27

Kiwi
So sorry to hear about what happened to you. How irresponsible of the midwife/hospital. I am not sure but is that not a known danger, that if you get pregnant whilst having a coil in?

You should have been scanned right away when you started bleeding, imo.

Take care of yourself. There is a lot of support here on MN if you need to talk it through.

Gillyan · 06/04/2009 14:30

Oh thats so awful for you. Hope you recover okay.

Stupid stupid hospital..

My cousin had this happen to her and she had a tube removed but still had 2 kids after that. Get well soon x
