Pregnancy
I think the best time of year to have baby is:

I had dd at the end of August and agree, it wasn't at all pleasant being heavily pregnant over the warmest part of the summer.
SoupDragon · 15/04/2003 09:40
Definitely March. DS1 and 2s birthdays are within a week of each other - perfect planning IMO.
ninja · 15/04/2003 09:51
Not May - I'm a teacher and I'm going to miss all my holidays on mat pay! (Good for the college tho' they make money, I worked it out!)
Saying that hopefully it'll be nice to have the summer to be out and about
Azure · 15/04/2003 09:55
I agree totally. DS was also born in late August and it was a nightmare being heavily pregnant in the heat, particularly when I was catching the tube to work. I remember driving around in the car on the weekend just because of the air-conditioning. I would definitely like a spring baby next (fingers crossed).

February to catch the January sales in time for birthday presents.
sprout · 15/04/2003 10:24
Well, I'm already convinced that mid-November (my due date) is the worst! I'll get Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb/March off for maternity leave - and winter in Belgium is usually pretty grim non-stop rain, and then get to go back to work full time just as the weather (and the baby) gets more interesting.
Having said that, dd was born in April and I had visions of sitting in the garden all summer.. which turned out to be the wettest in living memory! I guess it just goes to show you can't plan much when it comes to pregnancy/babies .
bluestar · 15/04/2003 11:30
January - pampered and able to rest over Xmas/New Year as everyone else is off work so you get company too. Also can buy those expensive birthday presents that I am sure will be demanded in a few years time in the sales! Couple of months getting used to baby in winter and then burst into spring and warmer weather when you at last feel like getting out and about.
Hughsie · 15/04/2003 11:49
Definitely Feb/March due to all teh reasons mentioned - apart from this year when April for the new tax year would have been more sensible and lucrative - an extra £1000 for keeping my legs crossed for 6 weeks!! It's only money though and ds2 would not be here if that was the case so I'll count my blessings!
Wills · 15/04/2003 13:41
May - because you concieve in August just as the hayfever season is ending and give birth just as it is starting meaning that you miss most of it.
I'm due at the end of August and wanted a summer baby - reading your comments I'm now a little nervous! DD was born at the beginning of March but I remember spending most of the previous August feeling hot and bothered and very very sick.
susanmt · 15/04/2003 13:50
February!
Something to look forward to after Christmas, pregnant in winter, and because both of mine are Feb babies (3rd and 6th!).
Gem13 · 15/04/2003 13:51
July was good in that it meant I got to go out when DS was little as the weather was good and I didn't have an excuse to stay in. Summer nights (early mornings) were light so when I was waking to do feeds I didn't feel I was the only person in the world awake. Also, being in a hospital bed (not where I'd intended to be) with the sun streaming in and a lovely breeze was great. Oh yes, not having to put too many clothes on a tiny baby when he was so delicate and we had first time nerves...
Being very pregnant in the heat wasn't so great though.
Next time I'd like a February/March baby so we miss the worst of the weather (this winter was great so next year's will probably be horrid until May) and we are able to get out and entertain DS.
mum2toby · 15/04/2003 14:00
Ds was born in June - that was ok, but the hospital was SOOOOOOOOOOOO HOT!!!!
Never again though coz I had morning sickness over Christmas AND New Year!
Better planning next time.... I hope!

I like September because my husband's, mine and my son's birthday are in that month. So naturally when we were trying for a second I was hoping for September so that one member of the family wasn't left out (it seems silly I know). However, after falling for my son easily, it took a long time, a few thousand dollars and a roller coaster ride to become pregnant. After the first couple of years of trying I didn't care when the baby would be due, I just wanted to be pregnant. I was due in May which wouldn't have been good if I was only having one baby, but since there were three we now have three of us celebrating birthdays in September and three in May. Sometimes I wonder if I got three so that there wouldn't be one left out!!! I will say though, that May is a wonderful time especially with multiples because the weather is nice and you can get out and it is also easier for people to come to your house to help you than it is in the snow and ice (more of problem in Canada).
oxocube · 15/04/2003 16:34
All mine are in September and October (post Christmas passion ) and agree about teachers' maternity pay!! Bloomin' hot in the summer though!
rainbow · 15/04/2003 16:48
January is NOT a good time.
DS1 3 weeks after christmas before payday.
DS2 10 days after DS1 4 days b4 payday.
Pregnant over Christmas .
October is not much better.
Pregnant through summer.
On the plus side all three go to school in the september b4 they r 5. No messing about with half days and settling into a year already half way through.
Oakmaiden · 15/04/2003 18:07
I've always fancied a June/July/August baby. Much more cahnce of having outdoor birthday parties. My DS is 4th Jan (not a nice time - FAR too close to Christmas) and no 2 is due some time in October. So no garden parties next time either.
jobey · 15/04/2003 21:44
may.finished with all the chucking up before xmas, carry through winter and pop it out when the weather is warming up.
Linnet · 15/04/2003 22:33
my dd has an August birthday. I didn't really mind being pregnant throught the summer, didn't suffer to much. Was a pretty miserable summer that year except for the day that dd was born which was scorching followed by the entire following 5 days that I spent in the hospital effectively missing our entire summer, lol.
But for baby #2 we're hoping for anytime between May and the end of July. June/July would be ideal as dd would be on school holidays and by the time she starts back in August we should be in some sort of a routine and not be suffering from to many broken nights sleep, well we'll have got used to them at least and won't need to be worrying about rushing out of the house first thing in the morning. Plus we'll be able to go out more in the summer and the light mornings will be easier for me to get up for feeds.
Linnet · 15/04/2003 22:35
I meant to add my birthday is 2 weeks after christmas and I've always hated it, seems like everything happens at once and that's it for the rest of the year.
Demented · 16/04/2003 00:24
I have a January baby and a June baby, I liked June best. So nice to get up for the night feeds and not freeze, also the lighter mornings helped for those early wakenings. January baby did have it's advantages, weather getting nicer just at the time when I felt I could get out and about more and also living in Scotland I can delay DS1's school entry until he is 5 1/2. If I had the choice though I would choose some between March and June.
