Yesterday!

That was my dd's first birthday. The weather was gorgeous just as on the day of her birth. We call her our daffodil baby and think this is a beautiful time of the year.

ds was born in July and this has been a good time of the year for outdoor parties.

I'd hate to have a baby in the winter as I get SAD and it would drive me crazy. I found it much easier with Spring/Summer babies with lighter nights, warmer weather - less dressing for baby, easier to breastfeed, easy to wash clothes, easy to get out for walks. No worrying about being snowed in for getting to hosipital. No colds. No power cuts. Nausea in Nov for ds was OK as nothing happens here then. With dd nausea late Aug/Sept which was past the best of the summer so OK too.

ds will always have his birthday during the school holidays. Looks like dd will always have hers during the Easter break.

The other thing is, I get terrible morning sickenss and stop eating. That means I have no energy, low metabolism, and losing body fat I am freezing all the time. Therefore I decided to have next first 4 months of pregnancy in summer, when I wouldn't shiver all the time? We were going to start TTC next month (May), but now for work reasons I want to delay until September. BahHumbug...! Guess I'll be getting the thermals out in October, then.

I hadn't mentioned the school thing but I am also in Scotland and my 2 february babies can start school at 4.5 or 5.5 - already planning to keep them until 5.5 (as is the norm here) as the preschool is so good.

The good things about a November birth are...

You can wear snuggly winter clothes while you are still a bit fat so no one will notice.

You can put the birth announcement in with Christmas cards.

DS is old for his year and so may well be more ready for school than some of the littler ones.

By the time the warm weather came, he could sit up and so sat on a blanket outside with some toys.

We didn't have to buy any clothes or toys as birth presents and then Christmas presents just about covered everything.

DS2 is a December baby and I wouldn't choose that again, too close to Christmas.

May have already been said...speaking from a teacher's point of view a Sept baby was excellent...school finished late July, got paid the rest of the summer and my maternity leave didn't start until the autumn term did. And I had 8 weeks to myself before dd was born! Would have loved to repeat this, but dd2 is due end of Dec, ahhh well, worked so nicely first time 'round!

but it was really hot that summer that was the down side oh and the hospital corridors, so so hot!

oops, of course dont know if number 2 will be a dd or a ds!!

hana it's not fair - I'm about to have mine so will miss all my hols on mat leave plus the slightly quieter time when all the exam classes leave . I will definitely time it better next time!

Just wondering what time of year people thought best to have the second baby!?

DS is 16 1/2 months old and I am starting to think about number 2. In an ideal world (!) I would like an age gap of just under 3 years which would mean October next year but wonder whether a spring/summer baby would be "better" as weather should be better and therefore more stuff for DS1 to be getting up to outside rather than being stuck inside in the winter. Saying that all the toddler groups are closed in the summer holiday so maybe autumn time would be better!!?

I thought having one was a tough decision but that was nothing compared to working out the timing of number 2!!

If I go for spring next year I better get a move on! If I wait until Spring the year after then there will be just over 3 years age difference (DS is a January baby)...I am just worried that that is quite a big gap ?

I do like the idea of spring baby but if it is next year then ds will be just over 2 and I understand that is a difficult time for them to adjust to new arrival!?

For me having an Easter time baby was good. As I teacher I really benefitted from the maternity pay. I finished school at February half term but didn't start Maternity Leave till the week after (1 free week here). I then had 19 and half weeks off - 6 at full pay, 12 at half pay, then 1 and half on nothing. I went back for 2 days and then I had 6 weeks school holidays! So, great planning for me!

Im wiht monkey and elliot on this- November babes are great because you can stay in doors and be snug you have an excuse NOT to do the Christmas shopping and you can send out birth announcements in the Chrissie cards. The kids are old for their year which can be an advantage and then when the weather brightens up you are ready to go outside with less post baby tum and a more robust child.

As I sit here thinking about it next Spring would be too early for me so any time from next October onwards would be best with regards to DS and the age gap. OK so the weather may be rubbish but I can't have everything!!

Ds was an early summer baby - spent the summer walking and walking and lazing on the park, eating picnics. It was really good. But child no. 2 is due in November - so I like the positive comments about that - all snug and warm and cosy. Sounds great.

Futurity, I think that the spring is the best time, but we had a bit of an "oops" and are due to give birth at Christmas- which I happen to think is the single worst time to have a baby for a number of reasons. I agree with Edgarcat below and all her reasons.
